How Many Lions Are in This Bush?

newtboy jokingly says...

Well, I'll just say that, when I see a large gang of naked alpha-pussies being flaunted all up close like that, I prefer there be much less bush hiding them.
The worst part for me by far was the two that looked under age. I feel like I just got put on some list for watching.

Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 Gameplay Trailer

I'll buy it when it's finished.

I wish they would have made all the expansion-stuff after they released the core game, then we would have had a non-alpha version now, but eh.

@Jinx

I am a bit confused. Earlier you used the word "conned" to describe the game, now you say it's not a hoax.

Aside from that, you certainly have voiced legitimate concerns. I'm also sick and tired of the usual pre-order business model. I decided that after playing the utter mess that was the Halo: Master Chief Collection for Xbox that I would never pre-order a game again. It's one thing to buy a game on day one, but yeah, in the usual sense, pre-orders need to die.

Thing is though...this is a kickstarter, thus the rules are different, by it's very nature, you HAVE to sell promises and pre-orders, or at the very least, contribution promises/swag/perks/etc. It's an alternative to going to a publisher and begging them for money to make the game and risk having the publisher exert creative control over the game/product/etc and whatever other compromises a publisher might force a developer to make. How many games have been utter shite because the publisher meddled and forced a game out before it was ready. Too many.

With kickstarters, it's the other way around. Backers demand that a game not be released before it's ready, but now the hype train has to start chugging along WAY earlier than a publisher-backed game in order to generate interest, because now the publishers are the backers and this is happening long before a game even gets to an alpha stage.

There is a risk with any kickstarter. If it was anyone other than Chris Roberts, I doubt I would have backed it. I backed the Shadowrun games mainly because it was being run by the guy who created the game originally and that turned out to be successful...twice. I'll be going for the hat-trick with the Battletech game they're working on now. Chris Roberts and Jordan Weisman both have solid reputations and have demonstrated they can make solid games. If it was Derek Smart or someone relatively unknown, I doubt I would have backed.

I find it interesting how the detractors are coming from various levels. Some of the detractors seem to be against kickstarters in general. Some seem to be against SC specifically and I think others are simply against it just because they want to see something ambitious crash and burn....and then there's Derek Smart who seems to have a personal, unhinged, vendetta against Chris Roberts.

Regardless of how successful SC will or won't be. SC is still a niche game by the very fact that it's a space sim. Even if it is a complete and total success, it's going to be a very complex game with a crazy amount of information to absorb and it will be difficult to be good at it. It is not for the casual gamer. So it will never reach mass appeal or become a widely recognized franchise like, say, Halo or Call of Duty. I think that is part of the appeal. A couple decades ago, publishers as a whole gave space sims the middle finger, but now thanks to crowdfunding, space sims are making a comeback.

Roberts has clearly tapped into something or people wouldn't be giving him money. He originally only asked for 2 million dollars, so even he didn't think it was going to be this big. (Europe is going absolutely bonkers for Space Citizen, they're way more into SC than we are in America)

For vaporware...it's amazingly....existant

It's funny to watch Star Citizen truther trolls claim it doesn't exist when there are hundreds of thousands of people who have played it and the numerous livestreams out there on youtube.

An earlier version is on my computer that I can play right now.

But yeah, keep pretending that it's some grand conspiracy perpetrated by the mustache-twirling Chris Roberts....who would have gotten away with it too..if it weren't for that meddling Derek Smart.

I got my invite to the PTU earlier this week. Sadly, I'm not going to bother with it because 1. my video card is shitty and can barely load the game in it's current state and 2, they're constantly patching it and the patches are huge and I just don't want the hassle.

I'm curious what the next excuse will be when the game is released? @Jinx, @rancor can you enlighten me? Generally the just switch some other trivial gripe instead of admitting they were wrong.

No faith is required @OverLord. The game exists and is playable albeit still in pre-pre-pre-pre alpha. The only difference is that you never hear about regular games until they've had years of development already done. With Star Citizen, we've known about the development right from the very beginning, we've seen the game grow from the basic hangar module that was first released to what it is now...warts and all.

If it were a hoax, it's the most inefficient hoax of all time. Let's waste lots of money hiring A-list actors for the single player campaign that, were it a hoax, we could just run off with the money. And tell me..what is the supposed end game for this hoax? Is Chris and Sandi going to skip town with a suitcase full of money cackling maniacally as they twirl their mustaches? Any damsels tied to the train tracks I should know about that need rescuing?

Agreed. For the unaware, this is vaporware until truly proven otherwise. Still in alpha after many many years of development...

On paper and in trailers it looks great, just stay wary.

Don't work for free

artician says...

Obviously different industry, but I have to occasionally do "art tests" in my field when I'm starting work for a new client or studio. These usually involve about a weekend-ish worth of unpaid work to produce a sample of art that's in the style and level of quality they need.
Architects have similar hoops, where they scramble, unpaid, to beat out competition for the lowest bid of work, so that scenario doesn't exactly belong here. I watched the whole thing because it was mildly interesting to see what the point was, but I didn't get anything out of it when it was over. (Other than "wtf is zulu alpha kilo?")

Bengal kitty is barely Husky tolerant

NirnRoot says...

What we have here is a translation issue: a clear example of how cats and dogs simply do not understand each other's body language.

The dog starts by trying to determine where he stands in the pack hierarchy with regards to the cat, albeit with all his aggressiveness tempered by the humans standing around him and showing some favoritism (or at least protection towards) the cat. When the cat refuses to react in a predictable dog-like manner, the dog takes the cat's glowering stare to mean the cat is the alpha and goes into full submissive mode... and when that doesn't work, he whines in confusion.

Meanwhile, the cat sees all this as the stalking of a potentially hostile carnivore who is significantly larger than it, and has ears back, eyes wide and is ready to swat at its opponent if this strange creature becomes to aggressive.

It's not that cats and dogs dislike each other: they just don't speak the same language. Eventually, the housemates will probably work out a sort of patios between them (more on the part of the dog than the cat) and will come to a more comfortable understanding.

It's not that the cat doesn't want to play; he simply doesn't understand that the dog is making an invitation.

Star Citizen Bishop Speech to the Senate citizencon

This game is so painful. I really hope the SC team stops listening to the hate, I hope they can maintain their teams, maintain focus, creativity, I hope they have enough money to last another 5 years of development, I hope this game turns out great. I really hope this turns out to be better than Elite a game that I found unfortunately boring. Will revisit once Occulus comes out, smoke a fat one and go on a cosmic voyage.

SC was/is one centered around PC gaming and dreams - I spent $40.00 on this game, which isn't much in my opinion in order to help a dream, a dream that I also want to delve into. My hope is not diminished yet and I do not care about delving into the rumors, anger and frustration. It is just a motherfucking video game. One that we all hope will be unbelievably good...

Realistically, these guys have probably promised too much, hopefully all the different modules add up to something cohesive - even if they have to detract from open world shit. I don't mind if they scale back to focus on story & content as long as the crafts feel solid. The alpha the control of the ships suck ass. Hopefully, both the controls and FPS mode are tight. If they can't pull off a huge scale, open-world game... no worries, I think working it to something more linear if the game mechanics are fun. Open-world games have been shit mostly anyways, Witcher 3 is a masterpiece though.

Derek Smart is an OCD creep he can go fuck himself and his games are shit! I mean kudos to him for having a lot of talent to do it himself and get shit released even if the content sucks.

Vi Hart on Gender

poolcleaner says...

There is a reason to go gender neutral but personally I advocate copying your brain and cloning yourself as both a man and a woman, and then a gender neutral cherub to follow your female and male selves around, shooting love arrows and playing a harp on a cloud with a My Little Pony that carries your personality back ups.

Of course, technologically we aren't there yet, but yeah that's the path to my heart's content.

And while I wait for that time, I'll spend the remainder of my life alternating between male, female, and neutral. Of course... it's hard to alternate sometimes when I have acrylic nails, threaded eyebrows, and henna up and down my arms. People are just confused by my appearance no matter how masculine I act.

The problem I have is that the effort to go through the process of feminizing makes the process of returning to a masculine state difficult. And often times I don't want to return to a masculine state. Though, being masculine is much easier aesthetically, it makes the return to a feminine state easier to achieve than going from my female self to male.

The thing is, I was never super masculine until around my midtwenties when I started hanging out in bars, drinking a lot, and basically mimicking alpha male behavior. I had to really put forth the effort to be a man's man, but once you learn to fake it long enough, you make it become part of your reality.

So in the reality that is my brain, although I am genderfluid, I lean more towards neutrality and femininity aesthetically, even if I also enjoy a good masculine diatribe every now and then. See, on the internet I can be anything I want to be at any time without the material requirements, which MEN do not fully realize (you ignorant pigs). So my genderfluidity is more natural and honest in this realm of 1s and 0s than "the desert of the real."

Edit: As an aside, I would like to point out that I'm not transgender or genderfluid because of Caitlin Jenner. It's not a fad or a trend, it's how I've always been, I just don't make a big fuss about it, unless it is appropriate to do so, such as now.

Cop Smashes Cell Phone For Recording Him

poolcleaner says...

Most police officers are good, therefore bad cops aren't a problem = BULLSHIT

Even if most officers are good, it doesn't excuse the behavior of rogues. If someone acted like an inexcusable and physically abusive dick around me and I were his peer, I would go help out the person whose property was mishandled. Why is that not the case in the law enforcement industry?

That's straight up BS on the part of every authoritarian and authoritarian sympathizer out there. This type of groupthink should NOT occur. It wasn't even the one cop, it was the whole bunch at this scene who witnessed the crime occur and failed to bring it under control.

It's pathetic alpha male surrounded by acquiescing beta males. That's the main problem right there. It's a systemic problem, not a single bad apple here and there type of social issue.

Star Wars Battlefront Reveal Trailer

Xaielao says...

I'm very fearful that EA is going to push this game into a launch window it simply isn't ready for. This trailer is in-engine representation of a pre-alpha game. They have 9 months to finish it and I just don't see them getting a high quality, bug free AAA game out in that time when they aren't even into Alpha yet. I really hope I'm wrong but this is EA and their track record (as well as Dices) speaks otherwise.

People from Mexico try Taco Bell for the first time

poolcleaner says...

Allerto's off of Brookhurst. That's the shiiiiiit. Best American Mexican food made by American Mexicans, which unless you're dumb and white, is all Mexicans with citizenship. Yer American now make us think you're making us Mexican food. We. Don't. Care. We are a grey race of capitalist alphas. Even the women. We'll fucking kill you, man. For a stick of dorittos flavoured gum.
