Aikido - Hiromi Matsuoka

Drachen_Jager says...

Yeah, @ChaosEngine that's true, but it still doesn't work in real life.

Nobody uses Akido in MMA.

Akido is moderately effective when teaching a weak person to fend off stronger, untrained individuals. It's shit if your opponents have been trained.

Also, if I need more proof Akido is shit: Steven Seagal.

I rest my case.

Nunstep

colt45 says...

Is akido the name of the music artist, or is that supposed to be aikido, the martial art, in the tags?

[edit: After peering at the original on YouTube, akido isn't the group. That is listed as skrillex. The nuns are definitely NOT displaying aikido, the martial art, either. "karate akimpo" is listed as a tag on the original, but I've not got a clue what that is…]

"Why Aikido Looks Fake" - Explanation of Ukemi (Falling)

>> ^chilaxe:
There are some interesting points here, but it looks to me like there's so much philosophy and mysticism surrounding it that it's missing out on some real world value.

I've only taken a few classes and learned a few of the exercises, but from that little experience I can attest that Akido definitely has some real world value.

Give it a try. I think you'll be surprised.

It's all about "ki".

Aikido Demonstration

Don_Juan says...

This demo reminded me of Yoshinkan Aikido. If this had been Ki Aikido, Uke would not slam on floor, but land softly and flowingly with Ki, fluidly returning to stand. Akido sense of flowing with Ki can be utilized in friendships, business, personal relationship with almost any aspect of experiencing being alive. If being attacked, Aikidoka will be thankful for Uke joining him and hope that Uke will be his strongest in order to provide good practice, and again flow with circular movement of Ki. When Uke is immobile and controlled by Aikidoka, Aikidoka may converse with Uke to learn why Uke attacked, in order to assist Uke in a more intelligent plan.
