DARPA's gigantic new quadruped "AlphaDog"

vaire2ube says...

this is necessary for Defense why ..... There is no reason for this weirdo pack dog to be developed by our military. Air and sea superiority, which we have, takes care of moving supplies. The reasons why we would need this machine are basically for post-apocalypse, so I'd like them to come out and say what is really on their minds here... this isnt for outer space its for this planet...

the darpa exo skeleton that is like the one in Alien, now that has uses for actual people, not targets in a war or scarce resources in toxic environments... or drone wars against "resistance fighters".

Also I was in 8th grade when Columbine happened so teachers took the opportunity to give serious lectures about not picking on people and not creating social estrangement. Someone else I know (from a different district) had teachers who did the exact opposite thing -- giving lectures about being on the lookout for weirdos. And she was the one who continued getting bullied and harassed into her 20s.

60 Minutes on the impact of antivaccination lobbying

messenger says...

No matter what you think about vaccinations, this piece was a meaningless attack piece. On the one side, grieving parents who cry and say how sad they are while saying nothing authoritative about vaccines, and on the other side, two wingnuts who are fervent and dogmatic, and not necessarily representative of the anti-vaccine lobby as a whole. I have worked with activist organizations, and they sure can attract weirdos, but it doesn't invalidate the issue itself.

Very disappointing for 60 Minutes. It's the same style as the CBC piece on homeopathy.

To be clear, I'm knocking the style of this piece because it removes credibility from anything presented. An opinionated journalist can make any opinion convincing.

I can't believe it's not butter, fail.

whoa dude. what an incoherent and terrible comparison.
football and boxing are sports that require skill.
The goal is to be skillful. Not to concuss someone for laughs.
This prank is pointless, stupid and murderous - not to mention it requires no skill or thinking.
It's in no way funny to watch that guy's skull bounce off the concrete.
If you're gonna be a weirdo sadist. As least be upfront about it.

Sports and pranks. Both are society-induced entertainment meant simply to solicit a response (I.e., watch me! Or pay for me!) from people. So yeah, they can be compared. I think you used the generic--"They cannot be compared"--justification more for your own comment than anything else. That has become way too prevalent these days.

When in doubt, just say those words and the comparison-poster (me) seems like he/she has no clue what they are talking about.

You mention skills? What about skills makes a dumbass sport--like punching someone in the head until he cannot stand--any less dumbass? Chess has skill too, but I didn't compare that with pranks. Because that would have been a incoherent and terrible comparison. I compared VIOLENT sports to dipshit pranks.

Here is another comparison that works. This is not a smart ass comment--I am using this to prove a point by example. Apples to oranges. Both are foods, both are fruit, both have vitamins, both are good for you...

So, just because you cannot understand a comparison doesn't mean you're right.

Btw, I can understand your downvote if you can understand my point of view.

I can't believe it's not butter, fail.

Wouldn't today's tourists find this sort of happening a bonus? Imagine the stories:

a) We saw a bigass statue of Jefferson
b) We saw a bigass statue of Jefferson with a bunch'o weirdos doing a jig around it!

As for the reason behind the jig (which the participants were surely eager to explain), surely it complements Jefferson's ideas about keeping the people free from oppressive abuse of power, no?

Doug Stanhope on Osama, Politics, Trump, etc

rottenseed says...

Somebody pointed out something to me the other day. Actually it was on satellite radio, but what they said offended me at first, then I thought about it. What they said was that Bill Hicks really isn't that funny. When you think about it, he's not. The things he says are, no doubt, true, prophetic, philosophical, etc. but none of it is really "funny".

I think Stanhope is funnier than Bill Hicks. Stanhope doesn't put himself above crass humor, but he usually does it with purpose.>> ^shagen454:

I like this guy a lot. In my opinion, Bill Hicks was sort of what we now call a "hipster". They didn't use such foul language back then. Back then Bill Hicks was just an abrasive weirdo. I definitely don't like Stanhope as much as Hicks but he is sort of pandering to that style of comedy for this generation and I'm glad for that. I love any comedian that talks up drugs and calls this generation a bunch of pussies. I know you know that rottenseed cuz I just checked and you posted that specific clip, haha funny shit! And then the full video is on the sift but my favorite part of it is this segment that rottenseed posted:
