the first thing we need to address is the fact we are all armchair quarterbacking.we have no influence nor power to dictate what happens in a country on the other side of the planet.
so basically all our bickering and arguing is a cathartic release for a situation that is horrid,horrifying and complicated.

the second is really just questions i would like to ask (and you could promptly tell me to go fuck myself).

He got an angry letter from the Goodall foundation and shelved the cartoon, never to be published again.

Years later, he happened to be talking to someone else from the Goodall foundation and she brought the cartoon up. He told her about how he'd pulled it and would never re-print it anywhere because of the reaction, and she said, "That doesn't sound like Jane!"

She contacted Goodall who personally contacted Larson and told him she thought the cartoon was hilarious and he was welcome to re-print it as often as he liked.

Ok so the first time I encountered the duel-syllabic pronunciation of "squerl" was with Brits. Sounds more like "skwee-rill" when my mates from Clapham said it.

What i can't figure out is why, "Al-u-Min-i-um?" An extra syllable AND but no extra vowel. I love it though-at least the Brits leave room for coloratura....pas comme les monstres de grammaire de la France

American and British culture mix so much it is easy to find examples of braggart and self deprecating humor in both. I think Frye is mostly right though. If you want to compare apples to apples, compare The Big Bang Theory and The IT Crowd. The Nerds in the former manage to achieve some success in life and love, because they learn and grow, while the nerds in the latter never learn and grow and the humor is in their constant failure.

Ironically these differences go back a long time. British Charlie Chaplain's "Tramp" bathed in self deprecating humor, while American Buster Keaton's humor came from his ability to calmly cause a lot of mayhem. Personally I love both British and American humor.

So sad. What is really fucked up is not so much that some girl is self destructive (that is sad, but no new story there), but that in this day we have a fucking news crew documenting. "Cool!
