Gaza: Why is no-one rebuilding it? BBC News

Jerykk says...

There comes a point where you just need to swallow your pride and accept defeat. Hamas is never going to win a war against Israel. Their continued efforts have achieved nothing but the destruction of their own country and the people within. Politics and religion are not worth the death toll.

Now, someone is inevitably going to rant about sovereignty and freedom and all that. Tell me... should Germany have continued fighting after the fall of Berlin? Should Japan have continued fighting after Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Should Native Americans be launching rockets and bombing government buildings? No. You accept defeat and start taking the road to recovery.

Sometimes a little common sense goes a long way. Are you legally obligated to tell your name to a cop? Nope. Would the situation have escalated if the guy had simply told them his name? Most likely not. They would have had a conversation and then left. No handcuffs, no tazing, no arrest. The cops certainly weren't justified in their actions but again, does it really make sense to antagonize someone who can taze/shoot/arrest you? Especially when it can be avoided with minimal effort?

As a father, he should have taken the most reasonable course of action, even if it isn't one that he's legally obligated to take. Sometimes it just makes more sense to swallow your pride and move on. Seems like he was more interested in getting hits on Youtube.

How dare you accuse me of being a militant anti-theist after the discussions i've had with you? Do you have no conscience about lying or something? You had to swallow your pride and apologise to me once for being a jerk (when i came to you as an inquirer) and yet you bandy around terms like "militant anti-theists?"
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. God is watching; shame on you.
>> ^shinyblurry:
How do you drive a group of militant anti-theists further away from God? You either want to know the truth or you're running away from it. That's the only dichotomy in this equation.
I post for a number of reasons, depending on the topic. I generally only post in videos which deal with God, Christianity, or social issues involving biblical morality, because those are the subjects that interest me. Not only am I qualified to comment on these topics, but as these kind of videos generally present an anti-christian worldview, it is only natural for me to respond to the subject matter and present my own viewpoint.
Videos like this don't make me angry. Like I've said before a few times, I used to think this way. I used to be as liberal and skeptical about the supernatural as most of you are. It is no mystery to me why you think the way you do. I am not baffled by your reasoning, nor does it threaten mine. What I felt was sorrow for Richard because he may never have come to know God before he died.

I don't regard you as a militant anti-theist. However, the sift has many *proud* militant anti-theists and so I generalized. I didn't mean everyone.

CDC's Julie Gerberding Admits Vaccines can Trigger Autisim

v1k1n6 says...

I'm sick of having intelligent conversations with "no vac" ppl only to have twisted stubbornness overshadow logic and science. I'm not saying the "big pharm" isn't a greedy bunch of asses, but swallow your pride and realize that though they are greedy it also is PROVEN to work.

Cop Smashes a Handcuffed Girl's Face Into A Concrete Wall

bareboards2 says...

Just do what they say and you should be fine. DON'T ARGUE. DON'T RESIST.

Keep your hands in sight at all times, preferably away from your sides. If they start yelling, drop whatever is in your hands. Do NOT put your hands in your pockets to get your wallet. And for pity's sake, drop your cell phone if they start yelling. Let it break. It can be replaced.

Are you a person of color? You are more at risk, especially in the South and in certain high crime urban areas.

Tug your forelock. Swallow your pride. Get mad later not in front of the cop.

A friend of mine was stopped by the highway patrol late at night in rural Texas. He is white, middle class, driving a big fancy Buick. He made the conscious choice to keep his hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2 so the cop could see them and not be nervous.

You don't want the cop to get nervous. That is when most bad things happen.

Practice saying "yes sir" and "yes ma'am". You'll be fine.

I'll be visiting the states soon and as strange as it sounds one of my major concerns is police. not being a native speaker i am afraid somewhat that if being stopped confusion might arise and there are various clips here that show us what confused US police officers like to do. ironically i'm not really afraid of street crime since i can choose where to go, but police officers? they are everywhere. maybe watching these clips while planning the trip is not a good idea.

Greenspan Destroys Deregulation in 16 Seconds

imstellar28 says...

So it's been two years. I hope everyone is doing well. A little older, a little wiser? Better, faster, stronger, smarter?

It looks like @NetRunner and @dystopianfuturetoday are still up to their old haunts. Learn anything in the last two years? History impart any lessons? A lot has happened since then. War, recession, inflation, destruction, pollution, the devaluing of the dollar.

Maybe meet up in another two years to see if anything more has changed? That is, if it is even possible. By then, we may have already lost net neutrality and the world wide web will a corporatized splash screen. "Choose your website from the following options." Worse yet, this site could be bought out by DynCorp and transformed into another corporate puppet ala Digg.com.

That is, if any of us even have jobs or savings to pay the internet bill. What with the massive inflation from the multi-trillion dollar "bailouts," handouts, QE3, QE4, QE5 etc. Ever pay attention to your supermarket bill over the years? What will the dollar be worth in two years if it has already decreased in value by upwards of 50% in the last few years? How about employment after the looming double-dip, recession, or second great depression. How many of the posters here will even have jobs anymore?

One thing is for certain, there is nothing special about American labor. China is in the lead in education, America is barely in the top 20. The average salary in America is somewhere in the $40,000 range. In China, less than $7000. I hope you've enjoyed the run while it lasted. Be prepared to swallow your pride along with your massive pay-cut as you realize the only thing sustaining this country is reckless consumerism. What do they tell you every Black Friday? Spend, Spend, Spend? Buy what you can't afford so you can be paid what you don't deserve. Nothing exists in nature "above unity," not even the American dream.

Forget the economy, what will our government be like in 2 years? Already, we sell little boys to afghan leaders and our presidential candidates threaten journalists with murder. Perhaps worse is all of our presidential candidates are identical. "Do you want the red or blue pill? They both taste the same." We torture our own citizens with solitary confinement for 6 months without trail. We've killed over 1 million civilians in Iraq, 15% of the way to our own holocaust. Corporations lay waste to our environment with no consequence. When they commit fraud, we give them billion dollar bonuses instead of criminal charges.

The internet is the primary source of dissent and "free thought" in the modern era. Two things diametrically opposed to corporate and governmental dictatorship. You forget because your mind doesn't think on large time scales, but the internet is just a baby. How long has it really been around, 20 years? That's not even old enough to drink alcohol. You've already seen what governments can do to the internet in China. You've already seen what corporations can do to the internet in Canada. How long before that becomes the norm and not the exception? You take it for granted what you have, then they turn your head while they steal it piece-by-piece. How often did you turn your head, when it wasn't yours they took?

"They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Yeah, things have been going quite well "as is." Keep you finger's crossed for the next new political "savior" and I'll see you in another 2 years...maybe.

Tears for Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love (live, acoustic, song starts @ 01:00)

SnakePlissken says...

High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man
And the lovetrain rides from coast to coast
D.J.'s the man we love the most
Could you be, could you be squeaky clean
And smash any hope of democracy?
As the headline says you're free to choose
There's egg on your face and mud on your shoes
One of these days they're gonna call it the blues
And anything is possible when you're Sowing the Seeds of Love
Anything is possible - Sowing the Seeds of Love
I spy tears in their eyes
They look to the skies for some kind of divine intervention
Food goes to waste!
So nice to eat, so nice to taste
Politician Granny with your high ideals
Have you no idea how the majority feels ?
So without love or a promise land
We're fools to the rules of a government plan
Kick out the style! Bring back the jam!
Anything is possible when you're sowing the seeds of love
The birds and the bees
My girlfriend and me in love
Feel the pain
Talk about it
If you're a worried man - then shout about it
Open hearts - feel about it
Open minds - think about it
Everyone - read about it
Everyone - scream about it !
Everyone
Everyone - read about it, read about it
Read in the books in the crannies and the nooks, there are books to read
Chorus !
(Mr. England Sowing the Seeds of Love)
Time to eat all your words
Swallow your pride
Open your eyes
High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man
And the lovetrain rides from coast to coast
Every minute of every hour - "I Love a Sunflower"
And I believe in love power, Love power, LOVE POWER !!!
Sowing the Seeds
An end to need
And the Politics of Greed
With love...
