SAMURAI - zero budget trailer
>> ^hertzollner:
Love the concept trailer. Great atmosphere. Great art-style. It's just that the zero budget claim is a lie. I see a lot of students make the same claim. And it's nice for them so many people on the internet believe it's true. But it's a myth. You use software in creating this stuff, which cost money. This software requires hardware, which cost money. Everybody working on this needs food, which costs money. People sleep in houses that cost money. And all the assets you borrowed from other movies/trailers costs LOADS OF MONEY. Everything costs money. Nothing is zero budget. I mean if you could do this trailer 200 times, you could end up with an Avatar movie that costs literally nothing, because 200 x 0 = zero.
Oh...let me follow you over here to Videosift and say the same thing again...
Wow, thanks for your comment Sir BUZZ KILL.
I'm pretty sure most people understand the statement "Zero Budget". The beauty of this is that this very polished and professional trailer was produced with no budget other than things in hand.
When a film is green lighted at a studio the budget they set doesn't include the price of cameras, computers and software either...
SAMURAI - zero budget trailer
Continued from above:
....The background plates were created in the Unreal video game engine with the intent of sharing all of the environment assets (rendered at higher res for the film) between the movie and the game. We only had access to more traditional costumes but the vision is to modernize and re-reinvent the look of the Samurai / Ninja genre for this 3D action epic.
Samurai Jack -The best fight scene in the whole series(4:57)
If you like Samurai Jack, you should probably read the source material, from where they practically stole the concept, the comic book "Ronin" from Frank Miller.

I'm not saying Samurai Jack isn't good (it is), just that it's a pretty blatant ripoff.

Clubbed to Death - Rob Dougan, The Actual Music Video
this should be promoted. Although I have no dick in the matter, I cannot.
This song was present to me when I was installing my first ever stereo system in my first ever vehicle as a teenager. A SUZUKI Samurai jx. This song was literally the first one I played on that and the bass was deep my friends. the bass was deep.

Samurai Princess - awesomely awful movie
I recently found this on Netflix on-demand, by accident of course. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Non-stop "wtf was that?" moments. The English voice-over makes it even funnier.
There must have been a sale at the Body Parts Warehouse in Japan, cause they re-use a pile of severed human remains in nearly every scene.
This trailer shows some of the best ridiculousness - boob grenades, rocket-powered roundhouse kick, chainsaw leg (also rocket-powered in 1 scene), buzzsaw chest, 22 samurai sword holding ghost arms, a single-punch removal of the entire skeletal system (from Mortal Kombat?), and many more. What they don't show is magical guitar weapon the one character uses, or the CG monster penis that the final boss uses against the samurai ghost arms (and 1 real arm).
Apparently the lead actress is an adult film star in Japan (there is 1 love scene in a dream sequence that shows her best acting ability in the whole movie.) She should probably leave this movie off her CV, it is beneath porn...

James Cameron's Pocahontas ... Erm, Avatar (SPOILERS) (Scifi Talk Post)
Meh, archetypes is nothing new. Personally, I found Avatar more similar to The Last Samurai than to Pocahontas. Only much better, of course.
Cow Punch
*asia! for the samurai movie at the end

The Traditional Making of a Samurai Sword (Katana)
I find Japanese weapons interesting given that these swords have history written all over them just like the video above. Amazing!
I found out on http://www.samurai-weapons.net all about weapons that both Samurai and Ninja use. All sword enthusiasts should check it out! Thanks for this post!
Zero Punctuation: Dragon Age: Origins
The over the top cliché story really puts me off... although I really liked Kotor I cant get myself to play this..
Why do all the rpg's have to be in a fantasy world wouldn't it be more fun to play as a roman a viking a samurai or a knight?
You know a real knight in the middle ages .. no dwarves elves goblins just thiefs and invading turks or crusaders if you will...
ahh the memories
