Lawrence O'Donnell discusses Russell Brand's "Revolution"

artician says...

I don't quite agree. I think he has made a dent. It's a tiny, miniscule dent, but it's a dent. He uses what he has, his celebrity and money, to spread a message of change. Assuming enough Russel Brand types had the same line of political thinking, and put half their time into similar efforts as he does, I believe it would gain quite a bit of traction for... I dunno, if I'm being realistic, a couple equality-beneficial laws to pass? But if that's what it takes...
Also, I wasn't sure what you meant by the system only changing when the people who benefit from the system decide it should. I assume you're not referring to people like Brand who have benefited from the system to acquire wealth and fame from capitalism, but those who have 'real' power that actually control the system, is that right? I didn't mean it that way, but I'll have to reread my post to see if I conveyed that meaning unintentionally, or if I'm just too stupid to follow my own line of thinking. But first: coffee...

If you follow your thinking to it's own conclusion, what your saying is that if the people that benefit most from the current system decide it needs changing, then that's the only time it will change? The Russel brand types have no where near the resources to even make a dent.

I've heard people say he's a fucking idiot-moron with a big mouth, but at least he's speaking out intelligently while most 'intelligent' people are feeling safe in their holding patterns of conformative self-preservation.
I feel like the next step here is for someone in his line of lifestyle to actively fund like-minded politicians (though maybe he already does given that's the traditional avenue for money that wants change), developers and community personalities.
Maybe it's just because I see ways through my field of expertise to enact change, but lack the backing. The only thing that holds me back from doing so is the capitalist requirement that I pay for my right to exist, or I am under threat of violence or imprisonment. If a dude like Brand gave me $1k a month to live off of, I'd happily trim back my lifestyle to help him in the areas I'm skilled at, for shared, common goals.
Bah! Self-indulgent ranting.

Russell Brand debunks David Cameron's War Mongering

ChaosEngine says...

I tried, I really did, but I only got a minute or two into before I just wanted to punch him in the face.

I'll try again.....

nope, can't do it. He's just so fucking self-satisfied.

That doesn't mean I agree with David Cameron either (terrible excuse for a human that he is), simply that I wish we had someone better than Brand.

I've said before that he can be eloquent and impassioned when he's talking about something he has experience with, but he's just mugging it up here and I have no interest in it.

R.B. is anything BUT nonsensical. Did you even watch ?
He's speaking far more reason than privileged shit bags like David Cameron.

Very good to see a high profile person such as Russell Brand spreading the news and actually doing something for society. He may rub some people the wrong way, but his message is spot on. People need to take a stand, and things need to change, because our governments (and media) are absolutely in need of kicking out on their arses. I've been lurking at Videosift for bloody donkey's years, and it takes a lot to bother me enough to actually create an account for anything. So well done, RB.

Russell Brand " Is Fox News More Dangerous Than Isis? "

Yogi says...

Just wrong huh, Ok then this is gonna be fun.

Firstly I was answering the question posed by Russell Brand "Is Fox News more dangerous than ISIS?" Which any reasonable person, especially those who have had a family member blown away in Iraq recently can say NO They are NOT.

Second Point, was it Fox that was convincing the American Public of WMDs and warmongering, or was it everyone? There wasn't a channel you could find that wasn't fully behind the government because that is what they do. In this area Fox isn't special, you could've turned on CNN and MSNBC at anytime and seen a 95% to 5% reporting in for the war and against.

Also the fact that the public was much of a factor in the run up to war, not as much as you'd think. There was simply a lot of ambivalence but support for our troops. Due to the fact that we have an all volunteer mercenary force it's just a lot easier to ignore that Johnny is being marched off to war. It's not right, it's just how it is.

In conclusion, Fox, the News Network isn't worse than ISIS. They're just not, end of.

EDIT: Also it doesn't seem like I should have to point this out to people but I guess I do. Russell Brand is a funny comedian, he is not fucking Noam Chomsky. He isn't around to provide cogent analysis and if I met him I would agree with some things he says and destroy him on his ridiculous hyperbole. He's not meant to report to us in an honest way, that's not what he does that's not what he's known for. Look for people like this to inject insight into the discussion and you get exactly what you deserve.

Wrong. The US gov needs shrills like FOX to keep the public 'on-board'. Classic example being the whole WMD charade. The US public needs to think they are 'spreading freedom'. If they were ever aware of the terrorism it's own government dishes out, the American psyche would collapse and there might be actual protests (and more). Which is why I like Brand's debunking of said propaganda and war mongering.
Do you think it's a coincidence the bitch is brown ? I even think they darkened her a bit.
CNN also did it with some other war mongering Lebanese cunt recently.
