RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence
@asynchronice @Engels
this is opinion that just happens to be on RT.
the opinion is coming from chris hedges,a pulitzer prize winning, war correspondent for 20 years for the NYT.who has been extremely vocal in his criticism of american neoliberal policies.
he also has a show on RT called "on contact".
as always, the answer is discernment, and for that to happen there has to be a basic understanding of what propaganda actually is,and to dismiss hedges analysis simply due to the venue,is intellectually dishonest.
example:
it has been known for years that FOX news is a meme machine,a message of the day producer of misinformation and obfuscation.
does this mean that every story FOX covers is false? or manipulated?
of course not.
conversely, does this mean that every story RT posts should be taken at face value?
again,the same calculus applies.
i find that when RT deals with the russian state, and stories regarding putin, they tend to lean towards state "message of the day",but when they cover stories that are critical of american foreign policy, they tend to source and back their conclusions in a solid journalistic manner.
in regards to the washington post and their latest appeals to power and influence,is just a symptom of a much larger problem.
if you recall back in 2003.when the bush administration was pushing for an invasion of iraq, the washington posts editorial board was possibly the biggest cheerleader.they outshine even the new york times in their desire to please their masters in the white house and pentagon, and because at that time print news still had credibility and washpo was, indeed, considered a beacon of stellar journalism (remember watergate?).they almost single handedly handed the war powers to president bush to execute an illegal war, based on lies.
so in my opinion, the washington post last it's credibility over a decade ago.this is also a main, driving factor why i abandoned corporate news media.
i prefer independent news outlets.the very same outlets that washpo, and their un-sourced propornot, targeted.
lie to me once...shame on you.
lie to me twice..shame on me.
RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence
Really, someone is going to listen to RT try to discredit something that looks bad for Russia? That is the reason they exist, they are Russian propaganda and nothing more....possibly worse that watching Fox.
RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence
Ya, isn't RT listed as one of the leading providers of propaganda in the NDI report?
RT -- Chris Hedges on Media, Russia and Intelligence
Uh, you are aware this is reporting from RT, yes ? WaPo may have egg on their face, but RT is an omelette by comparison.

I know it's the Moscow Times, but still, the content is valid. And it's the only place I've seen, outside the blogosphere that is, where a prominent piece points out just how ridiculous it is for the DNI report on hacking to focus so much on RT.
And not only that, but to paint RT's coverage of inequality, excessive surveillance and police brutality in the US as a sign of it being a tool of the Kremlin... that's just hilarious. The line about "alleged Wall Street greed" (RT, 31 October) on the other hand was too much even for me.
These two cut through the shit rather well, I'd say:

Diablo 20th Anniversary Retrospective
I wasn't a fan of their RTS games since I was a C&C and Dune fan. I did like Overwatch during its free week, but I don't game much these days.
And if there is a Blizz fan-boi around here.... Been playing their games since Warcraft and I loved everything after that and all of the expansions for their games. I still play HOTS and Hearthstone weekly and WoW every once in a while. Diablo 3 is just not interesting. Even an indie Diablo clone like Grim Dawn is way better.

"The Political News Media Lost Its Mind"
Of course you'd bury the questionable source in paragraphs and paragraphs of Grade A BS in the form of Russian propaganda.
I expected nothing less. I honestly didn't even read it. I just looked for the source, and figured it was RT.
You alt-right guys are so predictable now. lol

Noam Chomsky - Who rules the world now?
You weren't joking.
"Because of the value that comes from the ambiguity of what the US may do to an adversary if the acts we seek to deter are carried out, it hurts to portray ourselves as fully too rational and cool-headed. The fact that some elements may appear to be "out of control" can be beneficial to creating and reinforcing fears and doubts in the minds of an adversary's decision makers. This essential sense of fear is the working force of deterrence. That the US may become irrational and vindictive if its vital interests are attacked should be part of the national persona we project to all adversaries."
That's the international political equivalent of acting crazy when someone tries to mug you. Give 'em the old crazy eyes.
Also, partly thanks to separate feeds for the two of them and being allowed time to fully answer, Chomsky was fantastic at dealing with Cathy Fucking Newman. The poster child for modern condescending journalism, with her "Ah, no one is surprised you're critical of the US...." --having listened to supporting facts for several minutes, she comes back with tongue-in-cheek-but-not-really insinuations about bias. Subtly and with plausible deniability, attacking the person not the argument.
It's good that this kind of discussion appears on TV at all, especially on a major British channel, but they get away with the same kind of shit that people lambaste RT for.
I was reading Chomsky the other day on the train. Rogue States. Hadn't read that one in nearly a decade.
Anyway, something made me laugh. Remember all the ruckus about Trump's statements regarding the use of nuclear weapons?
Well, compare it to a 1995 USSTRATCOM document called "Essentials of Post–Cold War Deterrence". Chomsky had some fabulous quotes from it. Go ahead, google it, read the abstract. And then tell me again why Trump's statements are supposed to be crazy. It's not crazy. It's official fucking policy. Just like ignoring ICJ rulings or UN resolutions.
A rogue nation indeed...

Sorry no CNN MSNBC CBS stories, They carry the Clinton water.

New PROOF Bernie Sanders Actually WON The Primary (Probably)
Anyone else having trouble getting past how unappealing he is? Never mind that its RT that has its own credibility issues, he speaks as if he's already a bonified voice of truth. Sorry bud, Cenk you are not.
Next leak will lead to arrest of Hillary Clinton – Assange
This comes from using "russia" and "Putins regime" interchangeably. Nothing wrong with your average Russian. RT is an arm of an empire run by Putin, so yes, just like Murdoch, basically, only with nukes.
This Russia criticism - I don't understand. Is a pickpocket any less guilty because a Russian spotted them stealing from you?
And in my experience, RT is more reliable than the average western sources. It has its own bias, but by Christ if you think Rupert Murdoch is any better than the Kremlin when it comes to self-serving two-facery.. well, I have a magic golden egg laying hen to sell you.

RT is literally called Russia Today a wholly sponsored media channel of the Kremlin, it's like the Fox News of Putin.
Julian Assange is waging a personal war against the Obama/Clinton administration, some Australian hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy because he won't face rape allegations in Sweden shouldn't be the one to dictate how the American people should vote.
He is implying that Clinton blaming the email leak on Russians means that she will be terrible at foreign policy not mentioning that 3 separate cyber security firms found traces indicating the hack was carried out by Russians. It's so sensitive now. They release proof Russia is dabbling with US elections how will the American people react?
Selectively releasing damaging information against one candidate against another is not just some idealistic truth to power its manipulation of elections. I wouldn't mind if BOTH the DNC and RNC emails get released but this is a very one-sided attack. But think what that scenario even implies. Should all federal government briefings be open to the public because WikiLeaks says so?
Where are the WikiLeaks on Russia's war in Ukraine? Or the assassination of Boris Nemtsov?
An Army of Vehicles Resurface a Street in Russia
This is like an RTS where you have a massive surplus of units, so you just throw all your peons at the construction of one barracks.
