CULT of Ron Paul

bmacs27 says...

Ummm... fact check please? And I quote Ron Paul: “I am strongly pro-life. I think one of the most disastrous rulings of this century was Roe versus Wade. I do believe in the slippery slope theory. I believe that if people are careless and casual about life at the beginning of life, we will be careless and casual about life at the end. Abortion leads to euthanasia. I believe that.”

You don't usually strike me as dumb, so I'll give you a chance to explain yourself.

This is exactly the point of the video. You presume that because he is "pro-liberty," he supports liberty in the same areas you do. The fact is, it is impossible to support liberty universally. The gold standard is government price fixing. Deregulation of financial markets strips me of my freedom to operate in transparent markets. The defunding or privatization of infrastructure, well, that couldn't possibly impede my freedoms at all could it?

He does not believe in evolution. Doesn't that cast even the slightest shadow on his thought processes? Wouldn't the way he reasons and reaches conclusions affect the decisions he makes as president?

He is against abortion but pro-choice. How? He views freedom above his personal preferences... that's how wise men do it...

Conspiracy by liberals to ruin Dick Cheney

NetRunner says...

I can't believe people want to charge Saint Cheney with having committed a crime.

For god's sake, he's Obama's Islamic, Lying Cousin. I know that the media is shameless about digging into the President-Elect's family, but if the last 8 years have taught me anything, it's that the media shouldn't question anything the President does for the first 5-6 years of his administration.

Anything else would be treasonous.

Not to mention, they're charging Bush's mentally handicapped friend from Texas, Alberto Gonzales. That's just not fair! Fortunately, the man's probably already forgotten all about it, and will forget to show up at his trial, and forget to heed the subpoenas when they arrive.

It's not his fault, he was born without the ability to recall his own criminal wrongdoings!

Personally, I'm tired of all these liberal activist judges from the blue state of Texas picking on their native son President, George W. Bush.

Don't they know that when God wrote the Consitution, Article III says "Thou shalt not question Republican President's absolute authority, but thou shalt not respect Democratic President's authority at all?" I mean seriously, guys, didn't they teach you that when you were getting your law degree from Pat Robertson's Liberty University, or at your neighborhood GOPAC cell?

Seriously, it's like you all have forgotten the Golden Rule of Conservatism: take whatever you want, however you can!

Guilty is a perception, just like justice, and good/evil. I thought you would like to read on how McCain is becoming desperate.

In reply to this comment by NetRunner:
Actually, the Obama edits sound pretty benign, one being childishly petty (the Adam Goldfarb is a liar), the other mostly wanting to squelch an unsubstantiated slur (the Vanilla Ice quote). Neither seems like something the Obama campaign authorized (and if it was, not a terribly useful set of edits).

By contrast the McCain edits are flagrant attempts to rewrite history, and look like a coordinated campaign of intentional edits. The Xenophobia article seems to be trying to erase the idea that racism exists in America. Look at what was removed from the Liberty University article -- three paragraphs of fair critique with sourced articles supporting the claims.

I would've liked a full listing of what "other edits on articles that favor McCain which can be considered a conflict of interest."

To me, you've given a great example of false balance, trying to point the finger at both, when only one seems to really be guilty of anything.

Jeremiah Wright, Obama's Controversial Pastor

dgandhi says...

All the candidates have problems:

Ferraro, a member of Clinton's campaign, claims Hillary is beat down by the (black)man.

MCcain does commencement at "America should be a theocracy" Liberty University.

Obama's Pastor says rich white people are in control of America.

I can see why Wright pushes buttons, but he's the least absurd of the three. Just because Americans are uncomfortable discussing race does not make this worse then MCcain showing support for Falwell, or Clinton's campaign claiming that the electoral college has been taken over by a stealth affirmative action program.

If Wright words disturb you I must assume that you live in a very white washed world. Many people think as he does, and they are, by and large, correct in their assessment of the race/class disparity in America.

Richard Dawkins responds to Jerry Falwell's students

bamdrew says...

interesting point at 53min; "there is no christian or muslim child", talking about how it is accepted that people are given by default their faith by thier parents, and the difficulty for children to leave the church

the answers to the last questions (63min) are very good, and include a run down of evolution and the evolutionary timescale, as well as a comment that because liberty university teaches that the Earth is 6000 years old, students should leave this school for a "proper University".
