For a lot of commodity stuff, finding the answer to "what's in the damned box" can be neigh impossible, I use unboxing vids to find out when the manufacturer and amazon have not bothered to provide a good list. Not exciting, but sometimes useful. >> ^deathcow:

My friend who owns several big machine lathes says the kid was trying to turn it in the wrong direction anyway.

I've worked on those lathes, and I'm an amputee, (not lathe related:), so I could not agree more with Duckman. At my school a kid didn't tuck his tie in properly and it caught in the lathe. Luckily our teacher, who was a very big bloke, was right behind him and yoked him up by the neck before his face hit the chuck. His ripped tie hung was above the lathe with a little sign reminding students to tuck in their ties.

That looks like a manual metal lathe to me. And having worked with said lathes before as a living, I can say he's lucky it wasn't set to a higher speed or he wouldn't have arm and/or a leg left.

Thats no wood lathe, thats a big effing machine lathe and WOW !!! That was quite a scene I doubt this kids tibia/fibula survived that.

I would want a heated garage with car lift and room for metal lathe, milling station, grinder, welding stuff etc.

There are some really odd Nine Inch Nails parallels with this movie. Around the time of it's release With Teeth was still being called Bleedthrough and the NIN web site had quotes from the Lathe of Heaven (Bale's character works with a lathe in the movie).

With this next one I'm very anti-spoiler when it comes to movies so I don't want to say too much, but originally Bleedthrough would have been more of a concept album, and had themes very similar to the movie's. The last song on With Teeth is an example of a song that probably was left over from the original concept.

Also the main character's name, Trevor Reznik... similar to someone else's.

Well, I think it's AWESOME and you can bet the moment I have 100's of millions of dollars I'm building a big-assed garage with a CNC mill/lathe section, lubrication station, lifts and lots of memorabilia thats anything but laughable thats insanely cool.

I thought of a yellow black/silver lathe. Might be because I've started learning AutoDesk Inventor 09.

I work mainly in the remastering world, every once in a while I get a new band. I don't lathe, I have enough to contend with on the tape end. I do most of my work with Rhino, WB and Shout! Factory. You can see a list of some of my work here.
