I noticed that too...and the green screen behind him, and the dizzying undulating camera movements, but close your eyes and it sounds pretty good.

It's possible that they faked it, but it can actually be done without fakery, though it's not easy. First of all, before coming to the show, she gets a deck of cards that's specially made for magic tricks, though of course they can also be used for playing cards. Then, before the show, in the dressing room, she puts on a black dress and somebody cuts a hole in it, right over the stomach. And that's it, that's how they made it look like there's a hole in her dress, though it might also be green-screened.

Should have been filmed with a faster shutter speed - smooth motion blur like that looks great and natural, but is hell to blend in with other imagery with a green screen, like the blurry arms at 0:14.

Honestly, you really don't. I tolerated the first one but the second one put me off the whole trilogy completely. It's just such a bloated attempt at a cash-grab by making three movies instead of the one they should have done it in. Terrible acting and terrible story-telling. The action is decent but the CG is kinda in-your-face and pulls you out with lots of "that's totally green-screened" moments.

Which is to say, a green screen and two separate shots that line up well enough to fool anyone not paying extremely close attention.

Well, looks like compositing. Leto's actions don't synchronize perfectly as they would in a real mirror. From my experience working in film:

Looks to me like the shot the beginning part as a composite shot, basically on green screen, or even on the real set and rotoscoped. The shot through the mirror was the actual long take. There was no mirror, of course, and after the camera approached the wall, either the matte or set was pulled away from camera to allow the camera to go through. Possible reason for the camera pause being technical rather than story driven.

If you look at his arm, the foreground Leto reaches out before the mirror Leto does. Also, given the style of lighting on foreground Leto, which doesn't match mirror Leto, to me suggest they were lighting for a green screen. That's a typical light setup for ideal keying.

The green screen idea is the easiest way in this situation; if you notice, the mirrored Jared doesn't completely synchronize with the actions of the first Jared. The mirrored Jared did that shot facing a camera instead of a mirror, and then the mirror was replaced with a greenscreen for the beginning of the shot. Once the camera zooms in past the mirror frame, the greenscreening effects are no longer needed.

I'm guessing that either the mirror was a green screen, and they managed to seamlessly combine the two shots, or the mirror was actually a glassless window to an identical room, and they added the second Jared Leto in post. Or maybe there's an invisible cut when the camera pans with the first Jared Leto, and when we see his back we're actually looking at another actor, and the real Jared Leto is standing behind the fake mirror. I dunno. It's pretty seamless.

Great movie, by the way. Really ambitious and super stylish (but not in an overbearing way).

It's like the Companion Cube singer met Mission Impossible. I mean, Tom Cruise. Is he the only guy they can put in front of a green screen anymore?

Dude-Speed Racer was a sensory-overload mind-fuck of a recent forgotten film with a sheit script and disinterested actors who seemed stultified from making an entire film in front of a green screen.
Craptacular is how I'd describe it.

I don't have a problem with special effects. I have a problem with shitty special effects that make me feel like I'm playing a video game instead of watching a movie. Anyone with a fair amount of gaming experience can tell what's real from what's not. All I'm saying is I long for the days when cgi was used to enhance rather than replace good special effects.

The models of the white house blown up for Independence day will ALWAYS look more real than the pixilated aircraft carrier that's coming out sometime next year. Go peddle your fan boy bullshit to someone who enjoys the Green screen studio as much as you seem to.

I'm sooo happy that Disney purchased the rights to marvel. I always wanted to see the superheros I grew up reading in high Def PG 13 where wolverine can rip someone in half and not get blood on himself.

A lot of the great scenes from the first trilogy (ep.4-5-6) were shot outside on exterior locations. (Hoth, Tatooine, Endor..) Still better than CG and green screens if you ask me.

Probably gave him a C- for the terrible green screen, stealing someone's footage and the actor looked into the camera. If it wasn't for that last one, I would have at least given him a A-.
