But there is always the possibility that she could sneak online somewhere else or when her parents weren't watching. There is no way to absolutely foolproof against your kids doing something stupid. Sure, the parents didn't even take the minimum precautions, but the tragedy that struck could have happend anyway.

Is the point you're making that its okay that she received death threats and had a lot of harassment because her parents failed to protect her properly? Or are you blaming her directly because she automatically needs to take responsibility for whatever she does at whatever age? Neither of these alternatives feel very convincing to me.

She made some bad choices, she said things she shouldn't have said, she might even have done things utterly stupid. But in no way could she at 11 understand the full depth of what she was doing and what kind of people she was dealing with.

I read some discussions involving you here on the sift, and I think people who didn't know you or know what you had done came out and judged you and it hurt, and you hadn't realized how your actions would be perceived by others and couldn't understand the reaction and/or backlash that you had to face. If that hurt you, you should have at least an inkling of understanding about how hurtful the combined effort of 4chan would be able to utterly destroy someone. I cannot bring myself to see any humor in it.

I don't know, I recently posted a horrible video of israelis killing palestinians. I thought it was fun, so maybe Im just full of shit. It's possible. But I feel sorry for this girl.

If he payed attention, this would never have happened. Posting things on the internet is like posting it in the newspaper, except more people can read it - how do you think people would feel if she made a letter to the editor saying she wants to "put a glock in your mouth and make a brain slushie" and post naked pictures of herself on page 6?
Freedom, like the internet, comes with responsibility. If you're not adult enough to realize that responsibility, then you definitely shouldn't use it. The parents, as always, are to blame for the behavior of the kids.
She's like a stupid tourist who wants to get her picture taken with a cuddly wuddly panda bear, kicks it, and gets her face bitten off. I don't hate her, I feel sorry for her. And I laugh derisively in her general direction.

yeah,im with ryj on this.
the girl is fucking ELEVEN years old!
what the fuck is she doing on :
1.a webcam
2.4chan
3.talking about taking a glock and making a brain slushy.
4.posting nude pics..(really? REALLLLLLY?)

and then the father comes on TV and acts like he and his daughter are victims?
yeah..his daughter is a victim of him being a total twat of a father.
we are only children ONCE.
innocence will be ripped from every child due to the very nature of life but it is the fathers duty to protect his children and allow them to BE fucking children as long as possible.
his daughter was being eleven years old and was pushing the boundaries and doing her damndest to appear older and more experienced but in actuality having the opposite affect.her life experience is based on rap music and MTV and it showed and she got eaten alive for her obvious bullshit.
and where was her FUCKING father??
god i want to punch that fuck in the face....
acting like he gives a shit.
fuck you buddy.
you only started to give a shit when it became inconvenient for you to even fucking notice your daughter was having trouble....
a trouble that NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.
fuck him...
fuck him in the ass with a razor blade dildo.
to borrow from rougy...
he is a cunt.

so wait... whether or not an 11 year old girl deserves this reaction or not, her and her parents should be liable for everything that happened.

this is why:

"People are dicks... especially on the internet. A Public Service Announcement regarding 8-18 year olds and their parents."

Here's the thing... You went to high school, there were dicks. Probably at least 3 you can name off the top of your head still and that's out of 1000 people tops...
Imagine the population of image boards, social networking sites, video sharing sites, etc. We'll say 1,000,000 people to keep it conservative. (1.5 million iPhone4's were sold in just the first day of sales. Just to put that in perspective is all as this is not a direct comparison. Just showing that 1M people is a very conservative number here...)

Imagine now, going to high school with 1,000,000 people. Now you're looking more along the lines of at least 3000 dicks; that's just the confirmed ones, not including the ones that inevitably free themselves from normal morality when they become anonymous. 3000 people on the alert for the next reason to make themselves feel superior for whatever reason, taking any opening they can find.

High school sucked because of the number of dicks that screwed with other kids growing up. Imagine if 3000+ dicks harassed you... Well, you can do something to avoid this. Don't make yourself a goddamned target. You might have a clique of friends that think you're cool, and that's fine; act like this around them. Publicly spewing this kind of shit makes you a target and no matter how strong you are, there's someone out there that would like you to suffer for your opinion.

4chan is filled to the brim with those people. Would you go into a high school locker room full of jocks right after a game and tell them how you think they're f***ots and you're perfect, and that they should contract AIDS, and you would pop a glock in their mouth and make a brain slushie? If those jocks were guaranteed to be anonymous, never to be held personally responsible for their actions, do you think they'd hesitate for one second to beat the ever loving crap out of you?

This is the primary reason that all kids need to be educated on the proper use of the internet, what constitutes mis-use and how to use the internet safely. Kids should not be growing up in an 'internet highschool' and certainly not on sites like the mind-hive of 'just for the lulz', 4chan...

I fear for our future. Personal responsibility, how does it work?

Also, don't be an internet dick... Be a responsible parent, and if you're kid is a bully, don't let them try to be bullies on the internet. One of two things will happen. They'll become an internet dick preying on a much larger audience, or they'll become preyed upon by bigger internet dicks. Either way, it's not good.

tl;dr - don't be an internet dick, and don't let your goddamn 11 year old talk shit to an infinite amount of people unless she's prepared to back up that shit. sometimes your 11-year old is just fucking out-of-line, do something about it.

I Find My Lack Of Funds... Disturbing

Watch out 4chan, you've been reported to the cyberpolice.

whats that little girl? You expect to drop "pop a glock in your mouth and make a brain slushee" and NOT expect there to be an instant target? Proper parental response would be to show her the evidence that these are the consequences of her actions. The 'net is like a pack of wild animals, some will be interested in you, most would rather just eat ya.

The Maryland State Police are currently issued a Beretta PX4 Storm, but the officer in the video seems to be carrying something of the Beretta type, but I cannot tell. It definetly does not look like a glock which usually have a square slide.

When he holsters the weapon his thumb appears to come up to hit a decocker, which on a Beretta is on the back of the slide and ambidextrous.

I don't know if its standard protocol to have the hammer in ready position, most pistols are double action. However it does appear that he is placing the gun on safe when he holsters the weapon, he is defiantly doing something.

In this case I don't think he needed to draw his weapon. Some will say that's protocol; I say if the perpetrator was not armed then there was no need to present a weapon. In my mind the situation did not scale on the force continuum to have need for a weapon. Maybe soft physical force; the officer jumped straight to lethal force.

Heh, thanks Nordy. You seem to know a lot about handgun training, so if I may ask a question? Does he appear to take the safety off with his left hand immediately after drawing the weapon? Is that procedure, or is the decision to saftey off a separate event?

Pomplamoose covers Lady Gaga

If Lada Gaga isn't bad enough, now we have this. I know there's lots of fans here, and the band also parouses the sift and I hate to be mean to them, but holy hell this stuff is crazily boring to me.

I like them, but I know what you mean. Their reharmonized arrangements of banal pop tracks are clever and pithy, but at the end of the day, it's still a banal track at its core, and not the kind of thing I need to hear more than once. They could also stand to expand their orchestrational palette a bit too. Bust out that theremin. Get away from the drumset and bang on some household appliances. You don't need to have toy glock and toy piano on everything you do, the more you use them the less special those cool sounds become. There is a fine line between having a distinct stylized sound and having everything sound the same.

Sorry for the unsolicited advice if you are reading this Pomplamouse - as you are obviously very talented and have a huge fanase that loves you just as you are - but armchair criticism is the whole point of the internet, isn't it?

No Stormtrooper ensemble is complete without a taser, nightstick and Glock packed with crowd control!
