lol….”creep”! Love it. 😂

Putin’s “Leftist talking points”! LOL!!! Not according to Russia. They gave their reasons for invasion at the time, NATO expanding was not among them. 😂

Bwaaahahaha!!! Putin was turned down by NATO?!? Citation please!
Russia walked from even negotiations with NATO in 2015. When do you say Putin asked to join…please provide a video of his speech requesting admission. Doesn’t exist because it didn’t happen. You bought and repeated ANOTHER stupid lie.

NATO was created to protect Western European countries from the Soviet Union expanding into their territories, not to fight communism but USSR expansionism. Russian expansionism is still a threat, and you don’t start a “No Homers” club then admit Homer because he changed his hairstyle…meaning you don’t form an alliance to protect against Russia then admit Russia as a lead member.
Btw- Putin has expressed interest in returning to communist socialist Russia and retaking all satellite nations.

PS- your broken English once again betrays your foreign nationality, “Guess America need an enemy for feed the military industrial complex.” is not a fractured English sentence fragment an American would say and denotes an alien sentence structure in your native tongue. 😂

PS- to debunk your Russian propaganda that NATO agreed to not expand…. https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/115204.htm#:~:text=NATO%20promised%20Russia%20it%20would%20not%20expand%20after%20the%20Cold%20War&text=Such%20an%2
0agreement%20was%20never,included%20provisions%20on%20NATO%20membership.

And what I can find about Putin wanting in NATO is according to him he once floated the idea offhand to Clinton but only if Russia was admitted immediately without waiting in line, meeting basic requirements, paying, or having an acceptance vote, and only if Russia gets the same full power as America without contributing the same amount…not a true, serious, or in any way official application to join. He was not “turned down”, in fact Clinton publicly said he wouldn’t object to Russia entering NATO, but they never applied. It’s propaganda for ignorami, Sucker.

This stuff you spout is simple to debunk in seconds, and is mostly pure Russian propaganda straight from Sputnik. You should really look into your nonsense before spewing it into the ether like a drunk puppet in Team America. If only you cared that you look like an idiotic knownothing anti democracy anti American nutjob cultist, but clearly that doesn’t bother you.

Here’s a nightcap for you…Trump’s “security” rushing righty media away from his event when protesters start chanting “LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!” 😂

Has everything to do with NATO creep.

As usual you are just using leftest talking points.

NATO was created to keep Communist Russia in check. Russia is no longer Communist.

Also Putin asked to be enter into NATO but was turned down. -- Guess America need an enemy for feed the military industrial complex.

Right there with you…That’s what I do. I have one small Teflon pot for sticky sauces. I’ve never wanted more.

I’ve had friends forget their Teflon pans on the stove until they burnt up. One had a parrot in the house, it died from minimal exposure to the fumes that night.

I’ve left my cast iron on the stove….it cooked off its oil and I had to reseason it. No big deal.

Also, I’ve never scrapped off little bits of cast iron into my food. Every Teflon pan I’ve ever seen ended up shedding Teflon eventually. (Edit: on reflection, that's incorrect. I do scrape off tiny, microscopic fragments from cast iron....it's a good thing. Doctors may suggest using cast iron for patients with low iron levels. It's one reason my iron levels are always high when I give blood.)

What's wrong with using stainless steel, cast iron, etc to cook? Banning non-stick is no big deal even if I currently use it for some low heat cooking, don't mind perma switching.

Lava flows out as Iceland volcano erupts near Reykjavik

newtboy says...

As far as I know, the Icelandic people are the only ones in history to successfully redirect a lava flow (excluding Tommy Lee Jones). They got this.

[ In January 1973, Eldfell volcano on the island of Heimaey erupted an ‘a‘ā lava flow. Over the next 5 months, billions of gallons of seawater were pumped through an elaborate network of pipes laid out across the lava to cool the flow and slow its advance toward Heimaey's only harbor, the lifeline of the island and a critical economic resource for the entire country. The fragmental nature of the lava flow's surface allowed the seawater to penetrate deep into the flow and cool the lava near its core, and the advance of the flow was slowed as the flow front thickened dramatically.]

Re:
"Literally no different from a pistol other than it can have better accuracy and sometimes higher caliber"

.38 (9mm), .40, .45 are the calibers you will see used by police pistols

.223 (5.56mm), .300, .308, are the calibers you will see used by police rifles

Unless an officer is using a personal firearm at work, the pistols should all be higher caliber.

The major difference is muzzle velocity damage.
The pistol cuts a tunnel the diameter of the [expanded] bullet.
The rifle leaves an exit wound multiple inches across, and at point blank will grenade the exit side of the target, painting the wall with gibs.

Re:
"Can you tell me why you believe it's "not a great idea" when the criminals already all have guns too?"

Because police should be there to protect citizens lives, at the cost of their own if needed. (Hence the "hero"/"Public Servant" status they so like to remind us of)

If they protect their own lives, at the cost of citizens if needed, then they become a part of the problem they are supposed to be solving.

Just imagine the uninvolved bystander down the street struck down for no fault of their own.

The better path forward is full head to toe level 4 body armor for police, not heavier police firepower in packed suburbs.

That way they have the option to hold fire and assess the situation without shitting their pants and hosing the place down with lead "just in case, so they minimize the risk of getting hurt".

Full L4 body armor means that when things like the VT shooting happen, the police don't pitch tents outside and wait for SWAT (who actually has armor) to show up while people are likely getting killed inside.

Full L4 body armor means that when police open a door to a bathroom with an intruder inside (or a vacuum), they don't have to be thinking "kill or be killed".

Re:
"You are assuming it's a high velocity rifle. It's likely only 9mm, meaning minimal impact and penetration"

The video shows shots of the rifle magazine. It's not a 9mm pcc (pistol caliber carbine) magazine. It's the standard form factor. Meaning it is likely to be one of common the off the shelf calibers for that form factor :
.223/5.56
.300 blackout
6.8 spc
.224 valkyrie
6.5 grendel
None are 9mm. And other than a subsonic .300 blackout variant (used with suppressors/silencers), all pack a world more hurt than a 9mm.

It's true that a faster/heavier round will pass through more walls, and more houses.

Not sure it matters though, as 9mm ball will go through plenty of sheetrock layers, and rifle ammo stands a chance at fragmenting on impact with obstacles.
Which goes farther for any given shot will depend on what each one strikes along the way, and if it's bullet is of type FMJ/ball or HP or frag or penetrator or whatever.

Double thanks

I rather suspect that there isn't a single answer, and that it depends on the type of plastic and the fragment size. Melamine for instance is harmful if it's ground up to a powder, but not directly because it's toxic by itself but rather that it becomes toxic and causes kidney damage when it reacts with cyanuric acid inside the body.

This seems like our backup Armageddon. If the effects of climate change don't wipe us out, the survivors get to die slowly of petroleum poisoning.
I hope those disposable forks were worth it.

I was surprised he didn't mention all the plastics we eat intentionally, like any toothpaste with sparkles for instance....that's just bits of plastic we are fed on purpose.

Only if you ignore the acidification, heating, and other degradation of the oceans (which contain 99% of the living space and as much as 80% of all life on the planet)...and history. The massive habitat losses there are almost completely unrelated to farming feed crops and dwarf the recent losses on land.

Today creating space for farming is the major single cause for the intentional destruction of terrestrial habitats, but not historically.

Wiki-
Habitat destruction caused by humans includes land conversion from forests, etc. to arable land, urban sprawl, infrastructure development, and other anthropogenic changes to the characteristics of land. Habitat degradation, fragmentation, and pollution are aspects of habitat destruction caused by humans that do not necessarily involve over destruction of habitat, yet result in habitat collapse. Desertification, deforestation, and coral reef degradation are specific types of habitat destruction for those areas (deserts, forests, coral reefs).

...but what do you care? GET YOUWA AZZ TO VEGA!

Guess what causes the most habitat destruction? Growing crops to feed FARM ANIMALS. This is not a vegan thing, it's scientific consensus amongst environmental scientists.

How powerful assault-style rifles lead to devastating wounds

harlequinn says...

Good video. But...

"The speed of an assault weapon is substantially higher than the speed of a handgun".

No. The velocity of the projectile from a centerfire rifle is generally much higher than that of a centerfire pistol. It does not matter if the rifle is semi-automatic or not. The velocity of the projectile from a rimfire rifle is also generally much higher than that of a centerfire pistol. But rimfire rifles have very low projectile weights and deliver substantially less energy, have substantially less momentum, have generally smaller projectile diameters, and hence are much less lethal than centerfire pistols.

Some projectiles are designed to tumble. Most projectiles for disrupting flesh are designed to flatten out (and not fragment).

The stupid is dense here , but the worst part is the last clip , thats just not true! And he is a brain surgeon ! WTF , thats just not how the brain /memory works ! The brain stores fragments and remembers in patterns, not at all anything like a digital harddrive , where this kind of memory recovery would be possible. What the hell kind of crappy ass brain surgeon is this?

It amuses me when people talk about eternal bliss or eternal damnation. WTF would you know about eternity? Human life resulted from a chance combination of compatible factors to support evolution in a tiny fragment of a vast cosmos. Nothing else makes sense.

...it follows then that perhaps I mirror your predicament and do not properly understand your comment. Upon rereading yours I still find it oddly fragmented as you obviously do mine.

However, the references to deficiencies in my character and process appear clear.

I will reread my response and you may do so likewise with yours...or not.

In any case my opinion of you remains intact and as I would prefer it. However, I am always willing to learn.

What? I couldn't make heads or tails of this entire post....or the one that followed.
I noted that it did not answer why you downvoted, or what you found offensive in my previous post that triggered this one. Obviously you found something extremely offensive, but I can't fathom what. I flatly showed that the message from the video was statistically impossible, you seemed to take it personally wrote me this....which I can't follow.
I found my post kind and pleasant, except for people emotionally invested in the silliness that vaccines cause autism (repeatedly proven false, even by the guy who came up with the idea...decades ago). I only showed the ridiculousness of their argument in the video, where their own statistics showed their conclusion is absolutely ridiculous and mis-represented.
What gives? Were you having a bad day or what? I really don't get it.

They're talking about the ships fragmenting with damage and those fragments having collision etc. Modelling all that physics stuff sounds complex even in single player, but synching all that shit up for multiplayer sounds like a fucking nightmare.

I can't really fathom that there is a game at the end of all this.

Skydiver Almost Struck By Meteorite

Zawash says...

If you have a look at this picture, the rock seems to be falling at a constant velocity, as it should if it was a meteor fragment - it should be falling at its terminal velocity.
It's hard to judge distance and speed, but might be falling at - say 1-2 meters per frame. If it is shot at 25fps, this would mean that it's falling at 25-50m/s (90-180 km/h, 55-110mph, 80-160 ft/s) faster than the parachute jumper, and would be very close to a probable to the terminal velocity of a falling rock.

I retract my earlier statement.

Skydiver Almost Struck By Meteorite

newtboy says...

I'm not sure why you say that it didn't go much faster than the jumper. It only stayed in the frame about 1/3 of a second even though it's not really that close. It may be slower than you might expect a meteorite to be going, but if it's a fragment from after the disintegration/explosion of a larger one it easily might have slowed to just terminal velocity, which seems about right to me from the video.
What made me wonder was the lack of any visible smoke/trail. It could just be a rock dropped from the plane above, even a real meteor dropped from the plane (in case someone found it before the jig was up that it was faked). True, it would be a lot of effort for little pay off, but people do dumber things.
Still unsure...1/2 expecting this to turn out to be a commercial...but for what?

Zawash said:

A bit skeptical - it didn't seem to go that much faster than the jumper - even with parachute deployed.
