Meanwhile in Ukraine...
Is it weird at all that I know this music as the theme song of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion?
Was that cribbed from an existing song or is this a very odd tribute band...
Animated Pacific Rim Title Sequence
I would watch a Pacific Rim anime, even if it would basically just be watching Evangelion again. I want to watch Evangelion again.

One of the Best Press Conferences Ever - Marshawn Lynch
I actually thought, due to the timing that i first heard the nickname used, that it might be a reference to an anime called Evangelion 2.0 (or 2.22; as the release dates for everything lined up correctly, or at least I "thought" they did).
But, from what I learned later, he has been called that since his High School days. Although the "Beast Quake" was awesome. Anytime you create a football play awesome enough that you can get the fans riled up enough that an Earthquake Monitoring Station nearby picks it up (as an earthquake) is absolutely awesome and hilarious.
But, everyone is right. Even though he isn't doing anything *sort of* at these interviews, he is actually helping to generate publicity; because these interviews usually end up being far better than the status quo norm, that can cause people to fall asleep while standing at home (because they ask the same question over and over again, just with a different noun and verb...).
Honest Trailers - Pacific Rim
I loved the movie. I didn't expect a thought provoking experience. I didn't expect Inception or the original Matrix, I expected giant robots punching monsters in the face and mindless fun, and it delivered that in spades. Yeah, dumb stuff in the movie, but it was so full of win, like he says, I can't wait for the sequel... If they don't approve his At the Mountains of Madness movie, I would at least hope they go for a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion... I'd do a live action version of the 4 Rebuild of Rebuild of Evangelion films, so 4 live action movies that catch most of the story...
Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2
Someone's been channeling Neon Evangelion methinks...
Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2
Yeah, I notice that a lot in film. If something the size of a skyscraper picked up a ship like a bat, it would crumple and fold under its own weight as soon as it was off the ground. I don't blame the FX guys, I blame the writers. They script that stuff in there without any real understanding of the physics, just figuring it will look cool.
No surprise there, hollywood and their mouth-breathing target-audience and all, so I'll swallow my disbelief and disappointment and hope it's at least a decent Evangelion americanization.
The scene with the ship being dragged and used as a club looks wrong... scale and physics. Everything else looks great.
Pacific Rim - CES Trailer
I'm all for a live-action Evangelion, but...
Glados hurts me. Glados belongs in Portal. That's it's art. There it should stay.
They lessen themselves by relation to an existing universe.
Now they're just an Evengelion ripoff coupled with a Portal ripoff.
Del Toro casts Portal's Glados in "Pacific Rim" (Trailer)
I love the idea. And I love Evangelion. And I'm even prepared to pretend this is not a total rip off *of* Evangelion. But man, they sure are proud of their CGI, and they want you to *know* that they're proud of their CGI, which kinda goes against the whole *reason* to use CGI.
Doesn't mean I won't see it, I see just about everything. But I'm scared.

-Have you ever seen Godzilla? Evangelion's Angels (and the story) were a little more complicated than simply "giant monsters sent to destroy mankind". From this trailer we don't know what these monsters are or came from, they could just be random monsters like in The Mist.
-There were NO giant robots in Evangelion
-From this trailer, these robots are remote controlled, they are not inside them. Even if they were, ever heard of Battletech/Mech Warrior (they also use neural links)? Robotech/Macross? Gundam?
I was basing this off observations from this trailer. Nothing here says "Evangelion" to me apart from a few vague similarities that are not unique to Eva
Seriously?
Let's see.
- Giant monsters sent to destroy mankind (at least that's what they say in the trailer)
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside
- Giant Robots controlled by people inside with "neural links"
- Giant Robots each constructed by Japan, US, and Germany (that's not in the trailer I know, but i read it somewhere)

I'm pretty sure Del Toro must be a fan of Evangelion. There are waaaay too many similarities. And I'm glad! This looks kick-ass!
Similarities with Neon Genesis Evangelion are pure coincidence, I guess.

remember Neon Genesis Evangelion? Same shit, radder story... and they at least cut the original run off at a looong 26 episodes.
Man, I actually thought the ending to Evangelion worked.

People Depressed That Avatar Isn't Real
>> ^sineral:
Well, I see we've all already piled on the hate train, but..
I've experienced exactly what they're talking about with various anime shows. When I first watched FLCL I felt genuinely depressed for about two weeks when the show was over. Likable characters combined with seeing a young kid with friends having an adventureful life made me acutely aware of the things missing in my geek life.
Yeah I felt the same way after watching Evangelion as a kid.

Our world is gray and depressing? Open your eyes!
And how many people get to regularly see such sights in real life instead of just looking at pictures through a computer screen? I can understand people living in concrete jungles feeling that their surroundings are rather grim.
