Ian McKellen impersonator recites Fresh Prince

demon_ix says...

Being Bel-Aired, or Fresh-Princed, is something else. It's when someone posts a looooooong story hoping to catch your attention, and at some point, usually his mother gets scared and sends him to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air. He whistles for a cab, and when it gets near, the license plate says "Fresh" and there's dice in the mirror. If anything, he can say that the cab is rare, but then he forgets and says "Yo homes, to Bel-Air!". He pulls up to a house at around 7 or 8, and he yells to the cabbie "Yo homes, smell you later!". He looks at his kingdom as he's finally there. To sit on his throne, as the Prince of Bel-Air.

I think it's a little early to call this a meme

But Fresh Prince is, if I'm not mistaken.

Freedom of speech should only go so far? (Philosophy Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

Well, @Crake that wasn't my emotional reaction at all, it was just what you can, sadly, reasonably expect in certain venues. Ideally, you'd be able to speak your mind freely everywhere, but the reality of it is that you cannot do or say certain things certain places and expect that other people obey the law.

I wouldn't go through Jerusalem with a drawing of mohammed, because I would, rightly so, fear for my life - even though, if my person was protected, I totally would do it.

We should not allow people to break the law, because they were offended by someone using their free speech at all, I don't think I was getting at that either. I was just saying that you have to know where to say what and where not to say it.

RT is not Reuters, but 'Russia Today', not quite as reputable afaik. Tag change plz?

1) The story is about Reuters reporters being shot, that's what the tag is about I'm sure.
2) Does reputability come into it if it's an isolated interview?

Oooh right... hadn't thought that far. But yes, reputability is pretty important in any case, but the RT logo is right there on the screen I guess, so it's not a biggie.

"No-one has the right to live without being shocked"

SDGundamX says...

Maybe no one has the right to go through life un-offended but we DO have the legal right not to be threatened. The whole point of the hate speech laws is that certain words (which I will not write here) and actions aren't just offensive, they by connotation due to their historical use contain either implied threats of violence or seek to incite others to react violently to a group of individuals purely on the basis of their religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, etc.

I will offer the example of hanging a noose in a public place in order to show one's dislike of black people. Obviously there is no law against hanging a noose in a public place, and people are quite free to express their dislike (however irrational) of those of a different skin color. However, also quite obviously, that noose conveys a clear message of violence towards individuals of African-American descent, at least in the United States, for historical reasons. I therefore have no trouble at all with the individual(s) responsible being arrested and charged with a crime for making such a threat and I find it hard to believe that you do.

well said!
Whenever people bring up hate speech laws etc, just show them this video.
