I never get tired of this movie. Back in high school in the 70s my film class teacher let us watch this, it was unheard of. He said if he heard any sniggering during any of it he would shut it off right then so we kept quiet.

He pointed out some symbolism that I didn't get at first, about Callahan and Scorpio on the 50 yard line in the stadium. And the processing plant representing the justice system during the final chase, with Scorpio escaping. He also pointed out that even without a search warrant they would have charged Scorpio for shooting Chico and beating Callahan.

One thing I noticed, the violence in this 1971 movie was unheard of a year earlier. I can't think of any movie from 1969 or 1970 that had anything close to it.

The rest of the franchise got progressively worse for me, although Magnum Force made an effort. ("Me and Smith and Wesson", oh brother. He would have been shot 10 times over before getting to that line)

They all want to touch his illusionary wand after the filming. Or does the filming end, hm? He'll probably have to pull some slight of hands on their drinks before the cameras are rolling. Well, that's just slight of law but he should be able to get out of any California prison with some slight of hand into my wallet.

And that'sa bouda the time Chico does the money out of his a'wallet and then into his a'pocket physical comedy gag.

But why is he Italian?

Love The Marx Brothers...love Chico playing the piano. I remember as a kid whenever we came across a Marx Brothers movie while changing channels I always hoped that we hadn't missed the piano playing scene.

*sigh, I live in Chico, and yes that is a law on the books. It came about in the 60's in protest to nuclear testing, and the city became one of the first "Nuclear-free-zones". They also wanted to keep the local state university out of nuclear research. The actual ordinance is

No person shall produce, test, maintain, or store within the city a nuclear weapon, component of a nuclear weapon, nuclear weapon delivery system, or component of a nuclear weapon delivery system under penalty of Chapter 9.60.030 of the Chico Municipal Code.

I do believe the punishment includes up to 6 months in jail, in addition to the $500 fine

In the case of Chico, it would be doing them a favor if someone did.

hehe, i should have specified that i live in northern california, away from the coast. we really don't get any natural disasters to speak of, including earthquakes.

I wonder what the absolute top altitude of a weather baloon is? I guess at some point, the helium is heavier than the surrounding near vacuum. It would be helpful if there was something - other than a rocket that carries all its reaction mass with it - that could reach space.

Chico's comedic piano style has been a huge influence on me -- this scene in particular; and the one where Harpo trashes a piano playing Rachmaninov, rips out the innards and plays it like a harp. I don't play the piano, but if you watch me type... Pecking with style.

great scene by Chico. Only reason I'm some what funny is because I used to watch all my dad's MB tapes.
