WOW...still regret that I voted for him, but he's a knowledgeable guy.

Hey mate, don't worry about it, you did the right thing, something had to keep the republicans out. I urge you to do it again.

No I didn't. You don't choose the lesser of two evils, you make the system work and produce better results. Obama is a war criminal.

I agree, so I guess a non-vote would have been in order, considering your two-party system. However, I like to look at the silver linings and in my opinion, your vote ensured that things didn't get as bad as they probably would have had McCain/Palin gotten in to power. And, all leaders are war criminals, or just criminals...

I've never voted in my life, because I refuse to pick the best of a bad bunch... but I will be using my vote next election tactically, because until other parties have a chance in hell, we're all doomed.

One day we're gonna find out we're long lost twins or something @alien_concept..

I've not voted either, ever. I detest the system, i think the voting system and potentially democracy is flawed or limited and we'll end up in a species-rut because of it, working against each other until we run out of resources and die.

But i know i can't sit here complaining about the rich fucking manor-born tories stealing our country from under us if i didn't help to keep them out. I know me and everyone like me is responsible for them getting in.

I should have at least spoiled my paper or been more active in my protest if i wanted to protest the system in that way.

I was hoping the riots were the start of something. Change has to come from the youth and i suppose soon i won't be in that category anymore!

Santorum: Obama a Snob: He Wants Your Kids to go to College

Why even Ron Paul?

Sure I agree with him on foreign policy and social issues, but everything else he's a complete lunatic and/or amoral.

What's that? I knowingly sold you something that was harmful? too fucking bad.

For a long time I thought if I had to vote for a Republican, I could vote for him. I can't say that anymore. They're *all* lunatics this year.

There was once a time I could have supported McCain, but you certainly couldn't say that during the 2008 election. They're all doubling down on crazy. Moderate Republicans are an endangered species. It's like they honestly didn't learn their lesson with Palin and it's like they're intentionally trying to lose. Buddy Roemer was amazing on Bill Maher a few weeks ago but even he has given up on trying to steer the Republicans more moderate.

Fuck this two party system...may it burn in hell.

Bill Moyers: Debates, Fox News and Truth

NetRunner says...

@Yogi & @Kreegath

The problem isn't the party system, the problem is that there are a lot of people out there who want the wrong things from the political system.

There's also a lot of so-called smart people who think the best way to be a citizen is to just gripe about how every politician sucks and declare all voting activity futile, rather than try to persuade as many people as possible to see things your way, and then vote the same way as you.

Actual informed people know that you shouldn't let the perfect become the enemy of the good, because elections always have consequences.

Whoa lets hold our horses...as far as I can see TV hasn't bettered our nation in any way shape or form. Also educating our public doesn't seem to be working...it just seems to be disenfranchising the smart so they don't vote anymore.

How do you reckon it's education which disenfranchises "the smart" so they don't vote? I would think that a corrupt two-party system with equally unattractive alternatives would be a bigger factor, for instance. Also, surely you can see SOME benefits of television compared to the fifties when it first started to become commonplace, if you stop and think about it for a second.

The common thread here is more information, knowledge and context, with perhaps focus being on the information part. If disenfranchisement is the result of getting better informed, then maybe it's time to do something about the object of that information? Perhaps making people part of the process and maybe even feel like their vote matters, as well as having something or someone worth voting on.

Maddow: Rampant corruption in Republican party caucuses

>> ^Kreegath:

If this reporting is accurate, then it's outrageous how seemingly corrupt the voting system is! Perhaps an independent, neutral state or federal governmental vote counting body would be a good idea?

It is outrageous, but the political parties are free to pick nominees however they see fit. In a two party system the primaries are where the most important decisions are made it would be nice if they even attempted to be democratic.

Why not support me for president? Like Paul I'm anti war and pro weed. Unlike Paul, I'm also pro net neutrality, pro civil rights, pro education, pro environment, pro bank regulation, I think OWS is 100% right, I'm NOT a neo-confederate, NOT a wacky Austrian economist and I've NEVER published a racist newsletter. Why vote your fears instead of your hopes? Vote for me! Fuck the two party system, the status quo and career politicians like Ron Paul. If you are looking for a true outsider, 6th party candidate win no realistic chance at winning the presidency, let alone any kind of nomination process, look no further. I'm your guy.

I would have gone with you to the end...

but unfortunately you have a boat waiting and I have to kill some orcs.

Elections are a sham? Two Party System a con job?

Jinx says...

The UK is in no better shape really. We have a third party ofc, I voted for them last election. Ended up having the two main parties without a winning majority, so a coalition government was formed...between the conservatives and the liberal democrats. Most lib dem voters feel betrayed, many will vote for the more centrist Labour party over the leftist 3rd Party just to make sure the Conservatives won't get another term and suddenly our system is even more a 2 party system than it was before.

A referendum was held on how the voting should work, ie whether we should stick with the first by the post system. It was a chance for real voting reform, unfortunately it didn't go through. You should have seen the propoganda against it (coming from the 2 main parties ofc).

So from now on I'm going to use my right to vote to foul my paper. If you're frustrated with your political system I suggest you do the same.

Obama Hates The Military - Rush Limbaugh Debunked --TYT

VoodooV says...

It's pathetically predictable. Republicans scream bloody murder that we have to make cuts. Obama makes cuts, Republicans scream bloody murder anyway.

Tell me again why Republicans are relevant again? Or to be more bipartisan, tell me why the two party system is relevant/good for our country? It just encourages childish finger pointing like Rush's rant instead of reasoned discourse.

Why the Electoral College is Terrible

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

And, IMO, the worst part of the American political system is partisan politics, and its grown to a level of extremism that it could only hope to be challenged by a well established and respectable 3rd party (perhaps a party of the 99%... food for thought?).

The addition of a third, 4th, 5th, or 10th party would do nothing to resolve partisan politics. A lot of people think the 2 party system is poison, and multiple party systems are some sort of nirvanah. A 1 second analysis of parlimentarian political entities dispells that illusion. Systems with more parties - if anything - become even more contentous, fragmented, and full of partisanship than ever. The amount of skullduggery is amazing. The common man becomes even more distant from the political system, because the dizzying level of alliances, promises made/broken, and other shenanigans that take place to engineer a 'majority' on a vote essentially render any one party non-existent.

This is a bubble that really needs to be popped. I'm not saying the 2 party system is good. Quite often I feel very disenfranchised by the 2 party system because my perspective as a fiscally conservative, socially liberal, libertarian leaning, constitutional constructionist are rarely represented to my tastes. But the opinion that the addition of a 3rd party would in any way address the rancorous nature of US politics is simply incorrect.

Way too many bought-and-sold democrats on that list. That saddens me.

How can you be a congressman in this country without being bought-and-sold? What with private campaign funding and a two party system. Democrats are just owned by a somewhat different set of corporations, but there is a lot of overlap.

I kinda have to agree with QM (in a twisted way) on this one. If you truly believe there's "no difference", then vote for a Rethuglican in the upcoming election.

Out of the provided options, I'll take the less worse option, thanks. Apart from what is wrong with the whole two-party system, I can't in good conscience equivocate them.
