On the Broken Time Travel Logic of Back to the Future Part 2 (Blog Entry by lucky760)

Sarzy says...

"Doc replies that if they returned to 2015, they'd be going forward in the skewed timeline where Biff is a billionaire and has destroyed the world, so it wouldn't work. Hmm. Once Old Biff gave Young Biff the almanac, that changed the future and the timeline that Old Biff was existing on, right? That being the case, why is it that when he returned to 2015 he landed back exactly where he left from?"

Well -- and this might be a bit of a stretch -- maybe it's because when Old Biff travels from 1955 to 2015, Young Biff hadn't actually used the almanac yet. Thus the alteration of the timeline hadn't quite been set into motion yet, as it was still possible at that point that something could happen to prevent Young Biff from using the almanac and changing the future. But by 1985, that version of the future was already well underway, and thus Marty and Doc would only be able to travel to the new future, and not the old one. Plus, as we've seen previously in the series (with the fading photograph), alterations to the timeline occur gradually, and are not instantaneous.

Is there a point where you're actually going to contribute something to the conversation, or are you just going to stay in the peanut gallery and snipe at me?
No one is out. Just because different Christians believe different things doesn't make them unchristian. Misled, perhaps, but anyone who believes on Christ is saved. Personally, I am non-denominational.
How is the book of John ruled out? What on earth are you talking about? The passages referring to what people call the rapture could be interperted a few different ways..I accept them, I just read them differently.
Look, it's clear you don't know anything about scripture. Why don't you do some research before you toss around these ignorant statements.

No, I don't believe in the rapture..I don't think it is biblical. I know a lot of Christians hope for that but I think it's a false doctrine. No, I don't believe in the May 21st 2011 date either..for two reasons. One is that scripture clearly states that no one knows the hour. That alone makes anyone setting a date automatically wrong. The other is that the person who made this prediction had made another prediction that the world would end in 1994. Obviously it didn't happen so that means that he is a false prophet. If a prophet makes a prediction and even one letter of it doesn't come true it means he is not a real prophet.

While I certainly do not wish to add more stress to shiny by adding more questions to his docket...but ultimately, I cannot resist. And anyway, they're easy yes/no questions...
1) Do you believe in the rapture?
2) Do you believe that it will happen on May 21, 2011 as many theists predict?

ok.
so the pentacostals are out /scratches them off the list.
as is the book of john../more scratching.
any other books i should dismiss?

i am just following the conversation brother.
listening to your witness and taking notes.
so dont dismiss the books but allow for interpretation../check.
read more scripture../check

let me ask you a question.
since you feel im "sniping" from the peanut gallery.( i was being a snark..but snipe is nicer)
if you do not believe in the rapture and find it non-doctrinal,would you consider yourself to be a preterist?
do you consider yourself from ecclestiassitcal, calvinism or maybe even of a arminianism theosophical school of thought?
and if ecclestiassical..how have you resolved the issue of the nicean creed?
another i am curious as to how you may have resolved is zoroastrianism.
how have you been able to separate the seemingly identical stories from both the bible and this pre-christian religion?
i mean one could come to the conclusion that monotheism was actually born from this religion which was influential in judaism and christianity.
reading zarathustra's sermons one may find some close similarities to many of the earliest books of the bible.
or the story of gilgamesh and its seemingly identical recitation of noah, even though gilgamesh was centuries before noah.
how did you rationalize that particular conundrum?
one last question.
since you are christian,as am i,i am extremely curious how you were able to resolve the issue of the resurrection deities:
krishna,osiris,dionysus,mithra.
all were have purported to be the son of god.
to have began their ministry at an early age.
performed miracles.
persecuted and then executed.
dead for three days.
and on the third day were all resurrected.

what about the female resurrection deities?
ishtar and persephone?
they have similar stories too!

i am curious how you dealt with these particular theological dilemmas.

They were pretty consistent with how they jumped through time in the films. The jumps were from 1985 to 1955 to 1985 to 2015 to 1985 to 1955 to 1885 and finally back to 1985. There was nary a trip to 2010. Don't be so gullible.

On another video I posted a link to a table of blowouts. They've been happening since 1955. You would think, that this kind of thing would have been planned for by now.

Lulz. He's absorbent alright, like a sponge. A green, money grubbing sponge.

BP and its executives have experienced huge losses from this, so the problem doesn't seem to be so much that they pursued profits, but that they did a terrible, irrational job at it (for their bottom line and for ours).

This whole thing is a stupidity tax on the world. They will continue to fuck up huge sections of environment every few years. We will continue to allow our congress to be bought and sold by large corporations. We will continue to create laws which make businesses more important than humans or the Earth. We will continue to fund alternative energy less than weaponry or wars.
We broke it, we buy it.

Want to sell the Boeing 707? Roll it!

demon_ix says...

Alvin M. "Tex" Johnston (August 18, 1914 - October 29, 1998) was a jet-age test pilot for Bell Aircraft and the Boeing Company.

Tex Johnston is best known for barrel rolling the Boeing model 367-80 (better known as the Dash-80, the prototype of the KC-135 Stratotanker, which was the basis for the very first US transport jet B-707) in a demonstration flight over Lake Washington outside of Seattle, on August 7, 1955. The maneuver was caught on film and is frequently shown on the Discovery Wings cable channel in a three-minute short as part of the Touched by History series. Called before then Boeing president Bill Allen for rolling the airplane, Johnston was asked what he thought he was doing. Tex responded with "I was selling airplanes". Johnston kept his position as a test pilot, and got in no legal troubles for his actions.

Billy Idol must have found the fountain of youth, cause that dude barely ages at all. He was 46 (born 1955) when this was recorded (2001). He barely looks over 30.

Hm not to me. First 2 seconds into video, I was struck by his age.

Nice performance - love Billy Idol.

Swine Flu Update - What's really going on? (Blog Entry by EndAll)

imstellar28 says...

Yall are really something else. The amount of trust you place in people you don't know is really quite amazing.

THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. Or were these historical events "conspiracies" as well:

Baxter Pharmaceutical Mixed Deadly Avian Flu H5N1 with a Flu Vaccine about to be shipped to 180,000 people!
http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2009/02/27/8560781.html
"The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses. "

Bayer knowingly sold HIV-contaminated vaccines!
http://www.naturalnews.com/News_000647_Bayer_vaccines_HIV.html
"In 2006, it was discovered that Bayer found out a vaccine it was selling in the United States was accidentally contaminated with HIV.

In order to cover its tracks, say the journalists in this video (below), Bayer pulled the vaccines off the market and sold them to consumers in Japan, France, Spain and other countries, where hemophiliacs were then contaminated with HIV due to the vaccine."

Mandatory Polio vaccines contaminated with SV40, causes Cancer!
http://www.healthy.net/scr/Article.asp?Id=2703
"The sudden rise in the number of deaths from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma may be linked to the polio vaccine given to children in the USA until 1963.

Researchers have found the polyomavirus known as simian virus 40 (SV40) in a large number of lymphoma sufferers - the same virus that was in the contaminated batch of polio vaccines.

The vaccine was prepared in rhesus monkey kidney cells, but some of the animals were infected with the SV40, which was then passed on to the vaccinated children. In all, millions of children from all 50 states were exposed to the virus from 1955 until 1963, when the vaccine was finally withdrawn.

Latent viruses were such a problem with primary monkey kidney cells that a worldwide moratorium on the licensing of all polio virus vaccines was called in 1967 because of death and illnesses that occurred in monkey kidney workers and vaccine manufacturing facilities"

Doc_M,

You wanna do the world a favor? Buy some off-the-shelf vaccines and do a complete chemical and biological analysis on them, and report your findings publicly. Unless you are giving us a technical lecture, or presenting experimental data, your opinion is really not worth any more than any of us non-virologists.

Real Science: Economics by the Numbers (Science Talk Post)

imstellar28 says...

If you look at Graph 7,

I interpret this graph as being the amount of real growth in the GDP, where the amount of real growth is measured as the difference between the red curve and the blue curve. From 1955-1982 the GDP was separated from the rate of inflation, indicating that real growth was occurring. This fact is reinforced by Graph 1. The latter periods, especially during 1990-1995, where the two are practically identical indicates to me that there was no real growth--incomes were merely increasing according to inflation. Graph 3 shows this as well, although not as precisely as Graph 7.
