I still dont think its worthy of its own channel. Like one person mentioned, this is better off as a playlist.

I voted 'Don't care,' because even though it will be a VERY small channel, it ain't hurting anything. But I do think other members who had their channel requests shot down for whatever reason should have their ideas seriously re-evaluated. It's only fair, IMHO.

I just don't care anymore, as the line between channels and tags (or as reiwan mentioned, playlists) has faded over time, and the majority here seem comfortable with it. Whoever gets the chance to have a channel (and has it approved) deserves what they want, so I'm not gonna object against them getting it, no matter how trivial the channel seems.

On another note, why have channels like this popped up, yet we still don't have a fucking 90s channel?

Voted-in channels sounds good-similar to voting on the cleverness of the T Shirt designs-Wilhelm scream channel??...the of smell aged cheese and cabbage wafts...should we perhaps have a big voting party to consolidate the channels here already?

We are growing too many channels, the way it works now. By having super-narrow channels on the same level as much broader channels (like music) we are hurting everyone trying to use the channels.

I like the idea of a narrow channel like *Wilhelm but it will be used in less than 1 % of the videos, which means that for most users it will merely fill the list of channels when submitting, making it even harder to choose the right channels for your video.

Some sort of tiered approach might be usable, at least where some channels are clearly subsets of another channel, so we could at least clear up the design/look/presentation of the channels. That way we could probably make even more channels if we wanted without running out of space in the submitting.

^Yeah, the wall of channels can be pretty intimidating, especially for a new user. There must be a better / more streamlined way of presenting them.

^heh, the Great Wall of Channels stretches from Animation to Wings and was originally made to keep the videobombers out. Now it stands as a testament to the collectives of old.

As much as I can appreciate everyone's point of view, I think this is one of those times where people are being a tad too critical over a channel assignment. If you don't like it, don't invoke it.

If you dislike the number of channels we have or the way they're organized, then that's another thing entirely.

My only real beef is in how narrow the channels will get if you just keep allowing more to get added. I think all the major bases have been covered, and if any more are to be added perhaps it should be more of a something someone brings up in a sift talk type thing.

As for the scream channel.. eh, it really is something that's only going to interest certain movie buffs. I'm something of a movie buff, and I never even care when I see it mentioned in an imdb trivia note. *shrug*

Good points, BF. I can see too where folks are coming from on this. From an end-user standpoint * wilhelm seems incredibly narrow in scope compared to other channels and my first reaction was that the channel choice could have been much better (considering long-requested channels such as 90s are nowhere to be found). Then again, YDJ is a classy sifter and has been for a long time, and he proves that yet again by taking the community's lumps over this topic. Why shouldn't he get to pick what he wants? If we can revise the way the channels are presented when picking a video, not only would that make things more newb-friendly when sifting but folks could also pick whatever they'd like (within reason or dag-wood-test).

BF? I would like to rescind my vote for voting for channels. The admins obviously can't do it, and the members have sticks shoved side-ways up in they booty-holes most of the time.

Let the channels come as they will...already hard enough for members since 2008 to even get enough bling to be able to do it....By "it" we suggest, get creative.

Still smells of cheese, but hey, ease of management reflects a practical aspect and, Oh the fun! ...having to listen to the scream over and over and over deciding if its authentic, thrills and chills!!! OOOOOOHHHH!
