My girlfriend wants a tablet for Jesus' birthday. Actually, she wants an iPad 2. I have some qualms with Apple, but I'm ok with buying it for her if it's a better product...it is what she wants. However, I'm a man so, to me, "shiny" isn't a spec I give 2 shits about. Also, iOS seems stiflingly rigid and controlled (for better or for worse). And as far as smartphones go, I have the EVO and she has an iPhone, so our preferences are crystal clear.

For those who have operated one or both of these products, I have a couple of questions. Is there a benefit from owning both the iphone and an ipad other than just the familiarity of the OS? Do they keep each other company so one of them doesn't tear up the furniture when we're at work or something like that? Does the new iOS 5 allow "multitasking" yet or is multitasking still too much for the brain of an Apple consumer? How does the performance for the Galaxy 10.1 fair? The hardware specs look sexy, but does it all work together? What are some "non-measurables" I should know about?

As you can tell, I'm not a fan of Apple, but I really am looking to make her happy (for once).
