Victorian bushfires - Nation's worst natural disaster ever

At last count 181 people are dead in the worst natural disaster ever to hit Australia. Firestorms moving at up to 100km/h (60miles per hour) have completely wiped out two towns and have destroyed more than 1800 homes.

Bushfires are a regular occurrence in Australia, but this is something else. The heat we've had for the past few weeks combined with just no rain for so long has left vast tracks of bush tinder dry and ready to burn. Throw in either lightning strikes, machinery not being properly used, or far too often some absolute a*holes deliberately lighting them and you've got a firestorm on your hands.

It's got to the point where plans developed as anti-terrorist have been put into operation to handle the situation.
