Star Trek: TNG - "The Outcast" - 'I Am Tired of Lies' Scene

From Star Trek the Next Generation, Season 5 episode 17. The Outcast deals with the J'naii, a race of androgynous people who call on the Enterprise for help when one of their shuttles gets lost in what is soon revealed to be null space. Riker and a J'naii pilot by the name of Soren devise a rescue plan.
At one point Soren reveals to Riker that it is a criminal and immoral act on her world to have a gender identity, and that she considers herself female. Those caught having a gender identity are given psychotectic treatment which makes them "normal and happy". She and Riker fall in love and are caught kissing which results in her being put on trial, where this scene takes place.
The episode was a clear allegory of homosexuality and people's fears and reactions about it. Jonathan Frakes (Riker) felt that the episode would have had a greater impact had the J'naii, and Soren in particular, been men, but the producers felt it would have made the viewers uncomfortable.
The episode is particularly fitting today given the rise of the It Gets Better campaign, the "pray away the gay" groups, the end of "Don't Ask Don't Tell", and the general fight for equality the LGBT community faces today.
