VideoSift is 10
They said we wouldn't make it ... OK, no one really said we wouldn't make it (except maybe me a few times) ... but we made it!
This is our 10th Siftiversary. I'm still having trouble digesting what that means. VideoSift has been such a major part of my life for the past 10 years that it's hard for me to imagine that there was a Pre-VS time. Not only has VideoSift given me an outlet for my own ideas, it's taught me how a community works and what it means to work in a team - a big team spread around the Earth.
We've had a few existential crises through the years, most of them I've told you about - maybe a few I haven't - but we're still here. Will we be here ten years from now? I think so! In fact, I'm so confident that I've commissioned another 10 years of badges from our favourite illustrator Chris Murphy. Maybe ten years from now we'll be accessing VideoSift through our holographic injection helmets - but I vow that we're not going away.
I want to say thank you to the Sifters who keep this place afloat. I know that it's a labour of love for some of you - and that you spend more time here than I do keeping the place in order. Thanks for all the hard work.
Thanks also to my partner Lucky, without him, VideoSift would not be the best community-based website on the Web.
I still think that real communities can't be manufactured and culture is a "patina" that happens over time. We've got beautiful cracks.
We wanted to do something different for our 10-year mark so Lucky and I got together and had a chat about VideoSift. We're calling it the VideoSift Podcast, which means we might do more - maybe fortnightly. It's a little rough, (we won't quit our day jobs) but it was great to chat - believe it or not Lucky and I haven't voice chatted frequently over the years.
We've submitted it to iTunes, but because it's a new podcast it might not be available through your preferred podcast app yet- but here's the MP3 file.
