Why GM Says Its Ultium Batteries Will Lead To EV Dominance

spawnflagger says...

I think Tesla does some innovative stuff - like using the worlds largest metallic moulds (built by some Italian company if I recall, which make those exclusively for Tesla). But ultimately Elon is a "hype man", and most of his promises have fallen flat (check out Thunderf00t's youtube channel - he debunks many scammy startups as well as Elon's claims, using high school chemistry and physics).

I do applaud Tesla for opening additional factories in Germany and China so quickly, but exponential growth (for any EV maker) is impossible - there's simply not enough easy-to-mine lithium in the world. (Maybe Elon is planning to mine some asteroids instead of going to Mars? who knows)

The GM battery tech isn't exciting or sexy, but it is a means to building a more affordable EV. Ford is already shipping F-150 Lightning (assuming its not affected by the same contactor recall as the Mach-E). Rivian has been (slowly) shipping trucks.
Where's the CyberTruck? I bet even the electric Silverado will start shipping before the CyberTruck.

New York Nuclear PSA what to do in case of an attack

StukaFox says...

A car would be a perfect place to shelter:

1. The windscreen blocks UV light.
2. A car isn't going to collapse on you.
3. The car has actual shock absorbers to absorb the ground shock.
4. The car isn't innately flammable and even has a thermal barrier in the paint, metal and insulation.
5. The car has a radio.
6. The car is mobile and can (to whatever degree roads are passable) get you out of danger.
7. The car has a trunk to hold containers of water safely (double-safely if they're inside an ice chest inside the trunk)
8. You can sleep in a car.
9. In any circumstance in which a car was destroyed by the blast/heat, you were fucked anyway.

Holy fucking sheep shit, the importance of the testimony given today!

Trump knew his crowd was seriously armed, and encouraged turning off the metal detectors, just for one. I’m sure you’re waiting for Glen Beck and Alex Jones to tell you how to spin it all….probably just by saying she’s just another liar and secret liberal, and making certain you don’t watch for yourself. Best you’ve got, and it’s so very little.

I would say “ Wake up from you delusional dream and accept reality.”, but I know not only are you incapable, you don’t want to. The lies are so much more comfortable than reality for you.

PS- I still wonder, are you even one bit embarrassed at getting caught trying to say Democrats support the KKK when David Duke is an actual long time Republican representative?!

Edit: a little reminder….Trump’s people take the fifth when asked if they believe in the peaceful transfer of power….

OK; I had funny flashback to the scene in Galaxy Quest where they run through the gigantic "mashers" that have no point at all when the metal press scene came up lol

How Every Opening On An iPhone Is Cleaned | Deep Cleaned

SFOGuy says...

Yup. Never ever metal. Because--shorting across the contacts?

For anyone playing along at home, I would use plastic instead of a metal implement. The "toothpick" from your swiss army knife is usually pretty flat and great for loosening/scooping crud from the charging port. The plastic is better to avoid scratching all of that metal, not to mention no risk of short circuiting the charging contacts!?

Yeah, those phones were pretty gross. I'm still rocking an iPhone 8 and I only had to clean out some packed pocket lint once. Of course, I don't wear makeup.

Scrap Metal Impales Windshield From Other side of Highway

Khufu says...

lucky it was spinning... seemed to stop it coming right through. I've seen this happen with a small metal clamp from a passing plow truck, it didn't come all the way through, but caved in the windshield a bit and the interior/people get COVERED in tiny glass shards.

I'm surprised the driver said nothing, made no sound.

I had something similar happen, except the piece of metal came through the windshield and impaled itself in the center console. If I didn't swerve left when I saw it coming...

are the trailer-voice and generic metal music really necessary?, I mean unless these are being sold at gunshows in the US, seems a bit over the top. Can one hunt a dear(herd) with this product?

Exclusive Look At New Killer Drone Small Enough To Fit In

newtboy says...

Ok, that makes some sense.

Maybe, maybe not. It could carry armor penetrating explosives…shaped charges don’t have to be huge. They just need to shoot a stream of super heated metal through the armor into the explosive storage area or fuel tank, not a huge amount of it. It wouldn’t penetrate a modern tank’s front armor.

Also, Russian tanks don’t have AC, so usually travel with all their hatches open. Put this through a hatch, dead tank crew if not dead tank.

It would be great for 95% of that convoy outside Kyiv.

Edit: I wonder what a few dozen hitting all at once from different directions could do.

spawnflagger said:

If that's the selling price to military, probably includes licensing/chips for secure comms, as well as testing & certification to some arbitrary mil spec.

and while it's way cheaper than a Hellfire missile, this thing wouldn't take out a tank, and likely not even armored car. might be enough to penetrate the tank of a fuel truck though...
