Noam Chomsky on Trump and neo fascist similarities
I find it... grotesque, that many of the "disenfranchised" men voted for Trump, even though he is only going to line the pockets of the few. That is what Trump does, he is only in this for himself and/or people like him; he is a cult of personality & a greedy businessman completely disconnected from reality. How he actually connected with such a vast ocean of morons is mind-blowing - 1) Fuck the two party system 2) Fuck the Electoral College.
I like that Chomsky points out that these people don't like being talked down to. But, if they would have opened their fucking ears - they would have heard Sanders talking about the MIDDLE CLASS, over and over and over again. Sanders actually wanted to do something for the majority ---- along with these IDIOTS --- that voted in Trump. Whom, yes, is going to get them temporary coal jobs and natural gas jobs...
Is that what they really want? Some shitty job that will ruin the environment so badly that their children will be living in a glass bubble with Amazon teleporting breakfast, lunch & dinner as they look out across black skies, thinking the images of the world they see on Google are a fantasy?
Bill Maher - New Rule - The Danger of False Equivalency
Was just about to sift this. The last 3 minutes is pure gold.
Especially that Chomsky quote. So true unfortunately.

"We hate Bush and Rumsfeld for good reasons, so maybe they're behind it."
Love Chomsky. *promote
Noam Chomsky - Who rules the world now?
Actually, I'm with you.
Chomsky's a smart guy but he's a TERRIBLE orator.
He's like the anti-hitler (awful, evil ideas, but the asshole could give a speech).
What the hell are you on about?
You missed the point where I said I agreed with him. Seems like you're reading too much into what I said. I respect Noam Chomsky and his views. All I said is he's got a monotone voice.
I don't recall stating my political views. I think George Lucas looks like a pelican but I still loved Star Wars. Are you one of those people that only reads one author and attacks anyone who even looks sideways at them?
Jesus Christ you think that I said the diddled kids or something.
Noam Chomsky - Who rules the world now?
Chomsky, Savage (both of them), C.K. , Tyson (NdG, not Mike)
If you you do not deify them on the Sift, prepare to be keelhauled, swabby.

Lol, it's okay Faust, there's lots of people like you who struggle to pay attention to things if they're not shiny or exciting enough for you. You get bonus points though for proving you were just pretending to have a normal 'ugh, man that guy's monotone voice' conversation when actually you were interested in attacking his character for political reasons. Well done.
Noam Chomsky - Who rules the world now?
Hey ma, look at the guy who generalizes.
Noam Chomsky != all smart people. I've read couple of his books and I've watched him debate and speak many many times. I never said I disagreed with him or disliked his politics.
I just find his manner of speech to be monotone.
Oh, one thing he did that I didn't like was when he downplayed the Cambodian genocide as it was occurring.

Tell your ma to watch that clip.
Hey ma, look at the guy that thinks smart people talking is boring. Could you imagine if this mammal tried to pick up a book and actually read it? It would become the equivalent of a pillow -- snore and drool included (yours).
Vox: Sexist coverage steals the show at 2016 Olympics
How you deliver information is kind of a big deal. At lest to me. And it has nothing to do with how i feel about what's being delivered. Also delivery grates on people differently. I love how Chomsky delivers info where others are absolutely annoyed by it, and why i won't listen to Bill Maher and TNT most of the time(although i agree with much of what they say). Delivery IS a big deal. I doubt anyone here talking about this woman's delivery is discounting the info shes putting out there. At least i assume that. Also delivering in a comedic way is very hard to do well.

Noam Chomsky - Who rules the world now?
You weren't joking.
"Because of the value that comes from the ambiguity of what the US may do to an adversary if the acts we seek to deter are carried out, it hurts to portray ourselves as fully too rational and cool-headed. The fact that some elements may appear to be "out of control" can be beneficial to creating and reinforcing fears and doubts in the minds of an adversary's decision makers. This essential sense of fear is the working force of deterrence. That the US may become irrational and vindictive if its vital interests are attacked should be part of the national persona we project to all adversaries."
That's the international political equivalent of acting crazy when someone tries to mug you. Give 'em the old crazy eyes.
Also, partly thanks to separate feeds for the two of them and being allowed time to fully answer, Chomsky was fantastic at dealing with Cathy Fucking Newman. The poster child for modern condescending journalism, with her "Ah, no one is surprised you're critical of the US...." --having listened to supporting facts for several minutes, she comes back with tongue-in-cheek-but-not-really insinuations about bias. Subtly and with plausible deniability, attacking the person not the argument.
It's good that this kind of discussion appears on TV at all, especially on a major British channel, but they get away with the same kind of shit that people lambaste RT for.
I was reading Chomsky the other day on the train. Rogue States. Hadn't read that one in nearly a decade.
Anyway, something made me laugh. Remember all the ruckus about Trump's statements regarding the use of nuclear weapons?
Well, compare it to a 1995 USSTRATCOM document called "Essentials of Post–Cold War Deterrence". Chomsky had some fabulous quotes from it. Go ahead, google it, read the abstract. And then tell me again why Trump's statements are supposed to be crazy. It's not crazy. It's official fucking policy. Just like ignoring ICJ rulings or UN resolutions.
A rogue nation indeed...

upfront-noam chomsky on bernie sanders vs hillary clinton
Hey, man, just wait before you start writing his obituary, okay? :-) I mean, if a man as corrupt as Henry Kissinger can make it to 92 years of age, there's a chance Chomsky can leave him in the dust.
I'm legitimately going to miss this guy. And his role is not one easily replaceable; I cannot think of any other person who is so selfless yet inspired to continue to research the cold hard facts and saying it how it is. The status quo will be happy that he goes, but for millions - this guy remained a real inspiration. Someone who found the calling of anarchism at a very young age and never let go. He is someone who knows the historic truths as well as understanding the fabric of the mind to a somewhat tangible degree above others and without much personal infliction. The guy looks at facts and could care less about your opinion, or his own "opinion" or emotions on topics. He is an incredibly rare and crucial resource.

noam chomsky vs john silber-you are a phony sir-1986
Siber comes across as the embodiment of every insult he throws at Chomsky, including being a phony.
