The Golden Globes nominations are in
This is the first of three major award ceremonies for all you movie buffs out there. Traditionally it’s not as stellar as the SAG awards or the Oscars but it sets the precedent for what is to come.
Here’s the whole list:

One movie on the list that I’m excited to see is Charlie Wilson’s War. It’s nominated in five categories including best “comedy or musical” and best “supporting actor” for Philip Seymour Hoffman’s role (which rumor has it he should win). After reading the book I’m surprised that the screenplay has a lot of comedy in it. So much so it’s in the comedy category. Nevertheless the screenplay was also nominated.
The real reason I’m excited to see this film is that I’ve had the pleasure to hear the real Charlie Wilson speak to a small group about a year ago and I must say he’s every bit and even more charismatic as Tom Hanks (who is betraying him in film). The thing I find remarkable about him is the fact that he was one of the wildest, drunkest men Congress has ever had and he got away with it all simply because he was open about it (just goes to show you how far honesty works even in politics).
During that talk he told us many drunken stories like the time he rode a horse up main street in Washington to go to his nightclub that had more house members there than it did on the house floor. He also mentioned his good-looking interns and secretaries he hired whom everyone referred to as “Charlie’s Angels”. He said, “you can teach them to type, but you can’t teach them to grow tits.”
Here’s the trailer below if you want to check it out. So far it has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
