Deanosays...Does he have to try to be so self-consciously wacky? How about dealing with the safety issues that alot of people will assume to be present?
dgandhisays...So we are looking at what 40cm range, mono-directional? Sounds pretty useless.
The kitchen counter trick, and the remote charger, I'll buy that, the rest of it, not so much.
E_Nygmasays...at 3:50 you can see a magnetic interference flash appear on the tv due to the proximity of the remote control
demon_ixsays...He is sort of ignoring all the apparent downsides:
- If my power source is in the wall, and I want to remodel the room and move the TV, do I have to rip open the wall to retrieve it?
- Is there any sort of standard to govern the types and sizes of power units?
- The way it works seems very direction-relevant, meaning if you turn one of the components out of alignment with each other, the power stops (turn the TV sideways, and it shuts down). I say this because of the way the blender turned off when he moved it to the side. If that's the case, it's a huge downside.
- What about the efficiency? Is it truly 1:1 transfer, or is some lost in the middle, and how much?
These are questions I need answered before I buy anything that uses that.
Cool concept though
sholesays...should be noted that he is hyping about two completely different technologies
the first is magnetic resonance, which is just magnetic fields causing a resonation to generate electricity within it's field
and the other is radio frequencies, which counter to what he says, IS dangerous in large power values - as in cancer
so it's not something you want to hang on your wall and project across the entire room, but is fine to use as a lowpowered tabletop where you put your phone or controller to charge as it dissipates at larger distances
1:1 transfer would be technically impossible even with wires, but even more so when you have to convert it back and forth
especially as the sending unit has no knowledge how the power it transmits is being consumed, if at all, so it's an always-on powerwaster
i hope there's some tech in development that would allow appliances to communitcate with the transmitter and only request specific amount of power when necessary
i don't see any technical reason to be only directional, other than being a lot more efficient
i guess optimally you could put it in your ceiling light fixture to power the entire room
remains to be seen how this tech evolves
personally i'll stay away until power consumption gets under check, and then wire my work desks with it so i can forget about charging my phone/laptop/mice
blankfistsays...Well, it's about time. I've been wishing for wireless electricity every time I go behind my 'entertainment center' and have to figure out what goes to what. Wires are maddening.
For you haters, this is just the beginning of the technology. Eventually this will be perfected and we'll all be singing its praises.
antsays...*comedy for humor!
What about interferences? I always have issues with those with wireless.
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Comedy) - requested by ant.
conansays...Oh the revolution! It's so new! I always thought my electric toothbrush was charged with magic. Or maybe could it be? Yes, we already have had that for years. And the power loss is so significant, no one uses it for anything else than small devices that are only in use for a few minutes or with a very, very low power consumption. And to all you super-hipsters: there's also one available for your superfancy iphone, comes in form of a mat where you put your ipaytonsofmoneyforoldjunkandbelieveitsnew-phone on and it charges the phone without a cable. ...besides that one which goes into the mat ;-)
useless, useless, useless.
I am a bit negative today i guess :-)
Paybacksays...>> ^E_Nygma:

Camera flash off behind us. A flat screen LCD or Plasma doesn't react to magnetic interference that way.
I see this working more along the lines of being a "recharger area" gadget than a full power system. That being said, staggering drunk into your house, tossing your phone down on the desk at home then passing out, and waking up to a completely charged and sync'd phone would be cool on Saturday mornings...
kageninsays...There's already a wireless Wii Remote charger on the market. It uses an induction pad and a special kind of rechargeable batteries. You just keep the remotes on the pad while you're not using them. Seems pretty simple. Dunno how the batteries hold up, though...
