What if Nerds stop whining and make their own series rather than complaining that a man who owns the series did whatever he damn well pleased with it?

Yeah, good, experienced points all around.

I always felt that the most redeeming, amazing plot-twist that could have come out of this trilogy would be that, at the end of the third film you discover than Amidala and Obi-Wan were lovers behind Anakins back, and that Obi-wan was actually the father of Luke and Leia.

Would have blown some minds.

After the first two films I was really wishing there would be something like that to make up for all the trite shit.

There will come a day, within most of our life times, when voice sampling and video editing will be so powerful and accessible that people will be able to convincingly remake the prequels any way they like.

It will be immensely satisfying to finally see Star Wars 1-3 done right.

I embrace your future, like a fully extended light-saber.

And than no one needs to make a good NEW movie any more and we'll live in a world of constant sequals.

As you age, pretty much all books and movies start to become copies. The thing about Star Wars is that it's got some visual stuff associated only with it, basically look at lightsabers and see if something like them were done prior to SW.

So when you see them take something that while the themes are repeated, visually the movie is really unique......and then in your lifetime just destroy it......is quite horrible.

It'd be like the old musicians, authors, artists, after living 30 years under their great creations everyone loves.......starts to ruin them by writing "sequels" or re-doing the original work and insisting people watch only the new updated versions. And let's be honest, some musicians have come back to ruin their image or release music DRASTICALLY different than their original stuff. But at least they haven't went back and tried to erase the original versions of their music with "updated" stuff.

Heh, very funny that he's making those points about Darth Maul and the robotics being able to replace body parts, because that's EXACTLY what the "Clone Wars" t.v. show is doing for their new season.

This certainly would have made the film better. But you'd still have Ewan McGregor giving a stilted impression of Alec Guinness, and Natalie Portman being equally unnatural. And Darth Maul was a mute played by a stuntman. Without better acting and dialogue, all of these plot improvements would be wasted.

He outlines very valid points. Points you'd think any good script doctor could have incorporated and spotted. It's George's inability to take criticism and work with others that killed the prequels. It's as if he wanted to prove that he really could do it again, and that it had to be solely his doing, so HE had to write it all and HE had to direct it.

If HE had been able to create the first drafts and then let talented screenwriters work them over and then maybe go back over them and discuss.... then we might have had some fine films on our hands.

But as it is, I think it's time to just let go of the prequels.

Now, the originals.... THEY need to be released in unaltered, restored form... and there is one such project working on the original Star Wars that is going to create a STUNNING version... just STUNNING.

If it ever gets publicly released, it will be a happy, happy day.
