The problem with a catapult is that it has to get all of its acceleration for escaping the Earth's atmosphere while it's on a track. Unless the track is really, really long - that means incredible G forces that would be hard on soft tissue.

I'm hanging out for the elevator. Come on Google- use some of your billions.
