Truth Happens - Brilliant Linux Ad

a great 'ad' for linux made by redhat. there's some great quotes from people in the past that have since been proved wrong.

finally it loaded! great clip, gg!

i second sylvester.
linux has got many problems, but like every os has.
the difference is that its problems are, well, different, so, if you are used to windows, you simply have to re-learn something. not a great deal, usually.

And 99.99% of those problems stem from the lack of Linux-supported drivers. (Most notably WiFi and videocard.) Many of the drivers for Linux are written by the community, and while they are effective enough to use, they will have bugs, since they are written through reverse-engineering and guesswork. There are hardware providers that not only provide Linux drivers, but open-source the drivers as well, and when you run Linux on that hardware, you will rarely experience problems.

well, no.

i mean, your percentage is wrong.

now, ok, i like linux, i use it in my server, and i used it in my pcs before buying a mac.

with that said, i'm not a blind fan, i'm simply an happy user. that actually sees the problems. and there ARE problems, often badly designed interface problems. something that doesn't work as it was expected or at all.

this kind of thing happens in every OS, it DOES happen in linux too, don't be blind.

Sylvester_Inksays...

Ah, I thought you were referring to the core issues, rather than stuff like interface and issues with various software. If you're going to go that route, you'll end up with a few more issues. However, if you focus on the basics, you're less likely to find significant problems. (Yeah, 99.99% is a bit high, but I was merely exaggerating.) I think the main thing that throws newcomers off is the initial setup, and most of that problem does stem from driver issues.

Don't get me wrong. As much as I seem to be a Linux zealot, I'm not really that obsessive. I still recognize OSX and Windows (especially Win2k) for their benefits.

loorissays...

aah ok if you put it that way it does make sense, yes.

btw i'm also talking about lame applications.

i installed kubuntu on a pc of a friend of mine who is a chemical researcher. So i've also installed all the programs related to chemical-stuff, and in the description of the programs, they said they DID support stuff from the windows chemical programs.

but, well, it was a lie. this is a kind of thing i really don't like.
