CrushBugsays...Hahahaha, the Phantom "I believe" T-shirt is the winner.
Night Trap. /shudder
Rzone? Wow, never even heard of it.
Wumpussays...I'd never heard of R-Zone either, or Gizmondo for that matter.
But to be accurate, I don't think the Phantom actually existed at all. Anybody who followed HardOCP's coverage of the Phantom knows that the whole project looked like an investment scam. Personally, I don't think it belongs on this list.
Farhad2000says...Gizmondo is a really fun thing for a electronics junkie to muck around with, especially since you could drop in Linux on it. But that's about it, a curio at best.
fireflysays...Sadly, I blew $700 on a 3DO. I vowed never again to waste my cash on over-priced, disappointing consoles!
(runs off to find a PS3...)
eric3579says...I thought the NEO-GEO was a bit pricey. I think it was around $600 extra controller was maybe $100, and used games were between $90-150. Super Nintendos and Genesis were $99, gms $49 new.
pyrexsays...I think the Phantom does belong on this list because it turned out to be bunk. They wanted you to think it existed and would be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but ultimately it never even turned up. So it existed, but in theory only
westysays...it was blatently obvouse that the phantum was gona not sell . i want the shirt though pritty dam funny.
BillOreillysays...Duke Nukem Forever on the Phantom in 08'. You heard it here.
antsays...http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?r=1&type=wmv&id=19205 for the source.
davideosays...What...No Pippin?
Sketchsays...One correction. The 32X was not "another CD based machine". It used cartridges. And a few of them were actually fairly decent, but a few was definitely not worth the price of admission.
Funny to think of my old Genesis. By the time you got the Sega CD and 32X on there, it was as big as a space station.
Sylvester_Inksays...I personally loved many of the Sega CD and 32X games. Yeah, the add ons did fail pretty badly, but the games weren't too shabby. (Well, not all of them . . .)
Memoraresays...the recurring reason for failure in many of these systems is price, Price, PRICE!
Had any one of these $400-$600 systems been priced at $150-$200 they would have been profitable over the long term.
Rooflessays...Yeah the Neo-Geo was crazy. The ads argued that you got more for your money for the $200 games since they had more bits per dollar than the Genesis or SNES at the time or some other such BS.
AnimalsForCrackerssays...Hah, yes Firefly! I'm glad I'm not the only one who actually bought a 3DO...there were some very good (and few/hard to find) titles for it such as Cyberia, Killing Time, Road Rash, Shockwave, and P'oed. The rest blew chunks...
southblvdsays...No Sega Saturn? I only knew one person who owned that console and they didn't even like it that much.
darkrowansays...*dead
