Top Ten Video Game Weapons

"If every game had a weapon this ingenious, you'd see the boundaries between genres collapse."

The script for this clip was not only delivered in that half-moronic macho tone normally accompanying US movie trailers, it was also comically awful. Where did it come from?

And as deathcow said, the rocket launcher is quite possibly the most influential -- certainly the most widely used -- FPS weapon of all time. Where was it?

I probably wouldn't have been hooked on Doom back then if it wasn't for the chainsaw...the attack dog too! After a long nerve-racking day at work, or especially when my boyfriend was being a pain, that chainsaw provided unending fun.

Rocket launcher should definatly taken the the place of the stupid red turtles. Sure thy were fun but not nearly on the scale of the rocket launcher. The best launcher has to be the one from UT (original), I never had more fun with a gun than that.

At least they got the gravity gun right though.

good weapons are not only about big explosions and massive damage...
it's about how they enhance the gameplay, and how fun they are to use...

a rocket launcher can be replaced by any other weapon that makes a big boom...for me, original weapon designs like the Gravity Gun, Laptop Gun or the Ice Beam (which was original at the time Metroid was released) are much more fun to use, because you haven't used them in any game before...and they allow the developers to make puzzles only that game has...before HalfLife 2, there was no game in which you had to build platforms from barrels and trash using a gravity gun...

a rocket launcher may be fun the first time you use it, but if you used it in 20 games before, it's not exciting anymore

How about a smart bomb... that is up to 400 smart bombs (or bouncy green lasers)? The shoot-'em-up Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh (aka Bangai-O in the US) has it. Nothing satisfies like waiting for all the enemy gits to pump out loads of ordnance at you, letting them think they've got you dead to rights, and then firing off this thing at the last second and watcing a screenful of tiny homing rockets come out of your mech to eat both the incoming ordnance and the enemy alive. Now THAT is a smart bomb...
