It's finally here! Tim Minchin's 9 minute beat poem about quackery, directed and animated by DC Turner, and produced by Tracy King.
Aniatariosays...

Excellent beat-poem I honestly never get tired of hearing it. He's just so damn witty and so damn quick that Minchin.

The animation was great! Right up until they stopped animating...

I don't understand why they suddenly decided to throw the text in my face, did they think I hadn't read the poem before?

Disappointing. Words are so limiting, that's the whole purpose for creating a visual accompaniment or adding music in the first place...

and there are a host of reasons why we live longer... education, access to food, sewage, cleanliness, peace (the liklihood of dying a violent death), better living and working conditions, electricity,... clean water...etc...along with access to things like antibiotics.

and...everything that is accepted science or medicine here didn't start off as accepted. it all starts out theoretically....and then it's a continual process to prove and replicate. some things make it into "acceptance" that maybe shouldn't...for a variety of reasons.

for instance, in the US, acupuncture is "alternative".. but drugging the fuck out of your kids isn't.
in china, the reverse is true. are we more correct than the chinese? guess it depends on where you live and just how arrogant you are.

Acupuncture is "alternative" because there isn't good evidence that it's more effective than placebo. Also, the Chinese have long accepted modern medicine. What you call "the reverse", that "western" medicine is viewed as an alternative in China, is not true.

interestingly, tim appears to suffer from the same inability to shut his yap as storm. arrogance cuts both ways.

It's nothing to do with Storm saying too much, it's the insanely annoying disregarding of science and empirical reasoning that people like her do with flippant remarks and a complete misunderstanding of how things work.

It's the turning your back on science and reasoning so that you end up vaccinating your children with homoeopathic remedies instead of... oh I dunno, things that work.

It's the bullshit fear that I've seen instilled in parents towards believing their child will become autistic thanks to vaccinations when there is ZERO EVIDENCE to suggest so, purely an evil fucking 'doctor' who made a shitload of money by convincing people of his falsified claims.

It's the believing that you can turn your back on science and pray and you'll get better rather than dying.

It's the pretending that all the advancements that you currently live with that are thanks to science don't really exist and that you'd be better off 'getting back to nature'... except for those things you really would rather not do without... like your laptop or phone or perhaps just some panadol because, you know, you get headaches every now and again.

And it's the arrogance and bullshit that they try to discredit science with that makes people like Minchin boil, not that they 'talk'.
