GeeSussFreeKsays...Haven't we gotten to the day where most people now accept it is nature AND nurture; with some being influence in different degrees by either? I think most are born with a range or personality traits; a core that is influenced in varying degrees by the trials of one's life. The extent of which nurture changes them depends on the strength of the genetic core and conversely, the power of the experiences presented to them.
In that, I still think Locke's free society is the one that best accounts for this more dual nature of man. It may be that freedom isn't very stable and that people tend towards dictatorship naturally and the system will break down. But it is those times in-between that are a blessing to all that are in it. I don't see any other real solution that doesn't involve massive oppression.
