The new 'not really racist' Sheriff of St. Tammany Parish

EntertainmentMajorsays...

Not really racist. Its just the typical view of the white officials in Southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Northwest Florida. If you have ever lived in Louisiana or the other areas listed above, you would understand this guy a little better.

wow,

racial profiling, defense attorneys should be the first one on a rail out of town, defense attorneys there have a bad track record against "activist judges".... sounds like a swell place to call home.

I only heard him say one thing vaguely racist, when he claimed that all people who wear dreadlocks need to be watched by sheriff's deputies (at about 0:57). I was much more offended starting about 1:24, when he claims that defense attorneys are evil people who need to be ridden out of town on a rail. After all, if a sheriff arrests them, they must be guilty, so anything that gets in the way of a speedy trial and 100% guilty verdicts must be evil, right?

You think this guy is nuts, you should hear Sheriff Harry Lee in Jefferson. St. Tammany is across Lake Ponchartrain, about 25 miles north of New Orleans, connected by one of the longest bridges in the world. It's mostly upper-middle class white people who have fled the crime and politics of the city to live a "whiter" life. Any people with "chee-wee" hair (i don't know what that means. Cornrows?) would automatically be out of place there and suspect.
Sure racism sucks. I know black people that are afraid to drive in the city. But in a mostly black and mostly poor city, there are certain facts that you have to face. The politians are all corrupt. The pitful conditions of our projects and the corrupt and worthless education system created a population of drug dealers and criminals. There simply is no hope left in New Orleans.
I really need to move out of here. Anyone got a job for me in a city that isn't insane?

It sounds like the clip started a fair bit into the interview, and there certainly was more context than we're given. If his only point was that nonproductive slackards from NO were going to be given the stiff treatment in a town where people tend to be normal (working) citizens, then I fail to see the racism. Sounds like a very chill version of the police captain character from Big Lebowski.
