The Unreal Sounds of Underwater Seal Calls from Antarctica

"You can hear the seals call and it's the most amazing sound. They make these really inorganic sounds... it's really out of this world".

The otherworldly electronic-sounding calls of seals recorded beneath the Antarctic sea ice. From Werner Herzog's documentary 'Encounters at the End of the World', nominated for an Academy Award.

Wow..

The last shot surprised me, too.. I thought the video stopped and they were just carrying on the last frame until it started to zoom in. Those look like uncomfortable positions to sit completely still in.

Obi-Wan is back and now fighting for the seal rebellion.

Also why would they get down on the ice like that instead of just recording it or using microphones to amplify it? Are they all stoned? Cause it sorta looks like they are.

How do they know that all those sounds are from the seals and not weird ice grinding or pressure sounds? And what are they doing there? It looks like they are staying in some weird tyvek space tent.

They study seals, that's why they:

1- are there
2- know those are seal calls

Why are they lying on the ground? Werner Herzog is awesome and thought it would make a great visual to accompany the sound.

Although if I were living out there, I'd probably be doing that same thing all the time.
