The Space Debris Story

An ESA short film about space debris. What is it, where it comes from, how much there is and what we can do about it.

Space debris or space junk is sometimes referred to as "the global warming of outer space", meaning that if we don't do something about it soon, we're all boned. This short film by the European Space Agency provides a sobering analysis of how much debris there is in space, where it's most dangerous and how we can solve our space debris problems with active remediation. Includes animations of debris accumulation over time, Kessler Cascades and several different possible methods for de-orbiting dangerous debris.
