charliemsays...The wedges you see in the zoomed out view of the cosmos are a shadow of the milky way galaxy spiral arms, these dark areas are the places we cannot see because our own galaxy obscures the view.
Everywhere else that we have mapped is looking out perpendicular to the plane of the milky ways spiral arms.
