Texas Declares Sovereignty from U.S.

"If you dismissed Glenn Beck's argument for seceding from the Union as the isolated ravings of a lunatic, think again.

In this video, Texas Governor Rick Perry wades into General Beck’s loony bin and declares Texas' sovereignty from the U.S., saying that the time has come to "draw the line in the sand" against the federal government. "No longer are we going to accept their oppressive hand in the state of Texas." [Jed Lewis/dKos]

No, really, Texas, it's not me, it's you. I think this breakup is for the best. Umm...only thing, I'm gonna need that walled border to your south back. I gotta use it for your north border now. Nothing personal.

P.S. I'm blocking you on Facebook...cuz you're fruity loops.

Lolthiensays...

Soooo ummmm.. he never actually 'seceded' from the Union. And he never announced which 'oppressive' policies he disagreed with, and by saying 'un-presidented' I think is a pretty funny freudian slip since the President From Texas still has such a bad reputation, Texas truly has been un-presidented.

Also, I'm guessing no one is taking this seriously? It happened almost a week ago, and this is the first I'm seeing of it. It's all just posturing?

Doc_Msays...

Texas is not trying to secede. It is simply re-affirming its constitutional rights to self-government. They're saying it'll be a cold day in hell when they bend over and take it up the tailpipe from the feds. Cheers Texas.

rougysays...

^ No, they're just being total fuckwits and you strongly identify with that.

Texas is one of the most backwards places on earth, and a recurring embarrassment to the United States.

The only state more fucked up than Texas is Florida, and both are Bush country.

Doc, this has nothing to do with "re-affirming it's constitutional rights". It has only to do with Perry about to lose the coming election.

He's in a losing battle to save his Governorship. He is mostly hated by the Texas GOP establishment. He recently tried to shift $55 million from the state's general job creation account, to his alma matter, Texas A&M. The senate stopped it.

He wants to take the federal stimulus money (you know, from people like me and you) but he doesn't want federal oversight of what happens with that money, and definitely doesn't want to use it for unemployment insurance (screw the poor!!!) There is no "constitutional right" in accepting this stimulus money. He can either reject it (and lose the election) or take it and accept federal oversight and direction.

Whether it's a political stunt or not, I agree with the sentiment that the government needs to stop fucking up, with our money and our future.

You're still missing the point.

All of us are paying for the stimulus package. Some goes to each state. Some will go to Texas, but the Governor doesn't want to use it for its intended purposes.

It's not his money. It's not Texas' money. It's OUR money, and he either does what it's supposed to be used for, or he can fuck off.

Here's how much Gov. Perry just HATES that Federal Gov:

Five days ago: Governor Perry Calls FEMA To Assist With Wildfires

Last month: Governor Perry Calls For 1,000 Troops To Be Sent To Border

Five months ago: Governor Perry Requests 18 Month Extension Of Federal Aid For Ike Debris Removal

So, apparently the Governor just can't stand that big, nasty government, except when he needs its help.

Your level of maturity never ceases to amaze.

You don't even know what Perry is bitching about, but you sided with him anyway because I guess it's always chic to be anti-government when you have no real argument to make.

Perry is just grand-standing and you're just kissing his ass.

Doc_Msays...

^Sure he's grandstanding, but they're still not trying to secede. I respect the right for a state to govern itself to a significant and constitutional degree. I don't give a crap what is chic. I'm about as chic as a tweed suit. I just like options in governing. Anyway, you should be happy if states get more power to govern themselves. You can then choose one that leans more toward your particular political ideology and at the same time avoid people who disagree with that ideology... in other words, we'd never pass on the street. heh.

I was simply annoyed by your needless attack on my character. Calling someone a fuckwit for disagreeing with you is lame and doesn't contribute anything to any discussion. The sift, unless I'm mistaken, doesn't appreciate ad hominem name throwing.

I have never quite understood exactly why you absolutely hate me so much, other than that I'm moderately conservative, which is only slightly true. I'm more libertarian than I am conservative. I haven't really liked a president in... well, let's just say I'm hoping Obama is a first. We'll see.

Doc_Msays...

In reply: volumptuous:

Well, I'm with you on the stimulus package, but I don't think he's got a snowball's chance in hell of getting to dodge the fed's guidelines on it. He should stop talking and start walking and just not accept the package at all. That'd get his soundbytes across with action rather than blathering. He may have gone off the deep end for his own political gain... I guess I just tend to defend any state that wants to take more initiative in deciding its fate and law. He'll lose and the next administration of the state will clean things up at this point anyway.
