TYT: Alan Grayson Introduces Public Option Act

Grayson "Insurance companies do what they want. A public option would change that. There would be an alternative. That alternative would be Medicare."

TYT "It makes so much sense, that it can't be denied; and yet it has almost no chance of succeeding. Why?"

Say what you will against your better judgment and in reverence of the auspicious beginnings of capital I insurance as a game of chance in 1488 on the lives and shipments of Portuguese sailors venturing to Africa to it's seemingly omnipresence in our current society, Grayson is awesome.

The GOP will always talk shit about Medicare, spew lies and misinformation, etc.

There are some facts they can't avoid, though.

Most insurance companies take 30% of what's paid to them, and that goes directly to executive pay, shareholder dividends, and other things that have nothing to do with health care, and everything to do with greed.

Medicare only operates with a 1% overhead. For every dollar spent, only a penny goes towards paying the paper-pusher's salaries.

Of course the Insurance industry is scared shitless of universal medicare coverage. They might actually have to compete with something, and competition means thinner profit margins.

Of course, they don't deserve profit margins in the first place. Capitalism and Medicine never make for a good combination for the same reasons that Communism doesn't work - the unchecked greed of those at the top of the pile.
