DigitalAlloysays...That was awesome! I wish I could vote twice!
Dashsays...Australian Navy test footage. This footage was released by Hezbolla as propaganda. It was also digitally edited and used in the movie "Pearl Harbor"

djsunkidsays...HOLY CRAP!
That's top 15, i bet.
OK, am i the only one thinking this?
But maybe I just played too much pokemon back in the day.
djsunkidsays...ps: am i also the only one nerdy enough to actually load up the game to make sure that he had the context exactly right?
pps: actually I'm nerdier than that- i loaded up a SPEEDRUN of pokemon that i just HAPPENED to have on my HD to find the exact wording from in game. wow, i really should get out more or something.
MINKsays...this video is basically the reason why I am not in the Navy.
sirexsays...btw, the torp doesnt normally hit the ship, it blows up below it. The weight of the ship makes it snap by falling into the empty space created below it. Clever though
EMPIREsays...That's a destroyer? Looks smaller... Like a Frigate or something.
But very impressive footage though.
elyssesays...it sank my battleship!!
lucidgroovesays...Very nice
bigheadsays...great more wmd's
karaidlsays...Pfffft.... think about what happened to the torpedo! That thing got ripped apart!
Raytracesays...haha i was half expecting something comical like a giant circular saw attached to the front of the torpedo.
Ravenisays...Empire is right, that is a frigate that was reclassified as a "destroyer escort". It was destroyed by one standard Mk-48 torpedo. It is designed to explode under the keel of the target ship, but I'm pretty sure it's the explosive shock that breaks it, not the ship "falling" into the void.
xxovercastxxsays...sirex is correct... Somewhere along the line they discovered that you can do a lot more damage by detonating the torpedo below the ship instead of striking the ship directly. The ship flexes upwards from the shockwave and then downwards as the cavity is filled, usually cracking in two in the process. Here is the Wikipedia article on the torpedo used in this video.
The first time i saw this effect was in the intro video to Sub Command a few years ago. It used to give me chills to watch it.
siftbotsays...Tags changed from "torpedo, destroyer, navy" to "torpedo, destroyer, navy, military porn" by gold star member sometimes.
