I used to think that this segment was taped and edited together, but after watching this I came to realize that he's doing this live with just the image flipped around each time. And he pulls it off.

Did you not notice that the tie and background change colour? He's *very* good if he can do that in the space between changing.

Look at the last part where it shows 'both' at the same time: it is obviously mirrored. You can also tell by the way the stripes in the tie are arranged in the knot: it is identical (after flipping) for 'both' Colberts. Also, watch his face expression as it flips: he maintains the facial expression of his 'opponent' for a split second after the flip. Changing the color of a tie is very easy to do digitally; the only difficulty is idenfying the tie so that the red in Colbert's face is not changed to blue.
