QuadraPixelsays...NSFW? Was it the squished bugs???
karaidlsays...I'm only 74% combat effective if you blow off one of my limbs. Of course, if you shoot my nerve stem, I am so screwed.
Looking back, the acting blew so bad it was funny.
Perksays...Such an absolute butchery of Bob Heinlein's brilliant plot, dialogue, and manifesto.
As a personal favor to me, after watching this clip, go read the book. Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. Classic "hard" science fiction from the master exploited and travestied by Hollywood.
theo47says...The movie was obviously made with tongue planted firmly in cheek, Perk.
Someone might make a "hard" version of the novel someday, but that's not what Verhoeven was going for, clearly.
RedSkysays...You do realise the original was a fascist novel right?
Farhad2000says...It wasn't a fascist novel. That's putting it very simply, it was as much a political discourse as it was a novel. It explored a militaristic structure of society where citizen-ship and voting powers were only granted after military service. Thus effeictively you had to earn to have your say as a citizen. At the same time it showed how such a system could be corrupted, from the top.

As for the film it was terribly campy and has little to no relation to the book, but I still enjoy watching it.

papplesays...Ugh, ST was satire.
psyconiussays...Yet another movie from the past that has become relevant to our current geopolitical debacle
transportersays...Man I love this movie, it's so quotable
Sketchsays...We just never learn, psyconius.
bl968says...I referenced this exact movie today.
