jonnysays...Wicked photography - if that can be confirmed to be real and not Aftereffected, it gets an upvote and a promote.
sbchapmsays...Awesome video.
theaceofclubzsays...guess i need to do a little self *promote love for this one
siftbotsays...Self promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 10:21pm PDT - promote requested by original submitter theaceofclubz.
HenningKOsays...Jaw-dropping. This needs to go front-page.
9410says...That was pretty special. I have to go and find out how lightning works now.
ok. Wiki says the leader takes 100s of milliseconds to reach the ground before the discharge. It also says the successive "strokes" are 40-50 milliseconds apart. I'm guesstimating that the video shows lightning slowed by about 50 times.
aspartamsays...this needs an * art
zorsays...I can't stop watching this. Awesome! More!
poolcleanersays...Ah, finally this thing gets put on Youtube. I love this video so much. Oh man!
Mekanikalsays...Holy crap, that is definitely one of the most badass things I have ever laid eyes on.
zorsays...The only thing more awesome than this would be to see this in some kind of 3-D model. When I see the stringers make loops, I wonder what they are really doing. Also, a timer for the film would be great.
gwiz665says...Now if it could eat a sandwich in under two minutes, I would be impressed.
I can't cause I've dropped my jaw...
effsays...that's amazing... the little "sparks" make their way toward the ground, and the first one that touches gets the lightning strike. the lattice is almost like a snowflake; it's so erratic. great image
youdiejoesays...awesome seeing how the lighting bolt relays from the ground back to the cloud
youdiejoesays...I found a documentary from the CBC that covers how this photography was done, AMAZING!

Don_Juansays...Incredibleblebleble!
There is a sense of understanding and recognition when watching this, like we have seen it but not assimilated it consciously when experiencing a lightning strike. ROCKIN!! awesome!!
kceaton1says...Wow, I would love to see the source feed on this. Imagine if it was a stereoscopic camera (3D branching).
youdiejoe: Thanks for that.
I would like to know more about the "ball like" leaders. Perhaps the source of the mythical ball lightning (plasma ball)?
