Actually, an omitted scene, this would have been my favorite scene of the movie. I imagine the contextual elusivity of the scene for some lent to its exclusion. That contextual vagary is alleviated by the viewing of the movie. The story is historically based and the characters real. This scene is anecdotal of the Sergeant Major portrayed by Sam Elliot.
