dystopianfuturetodaysays...I'm still scratching my head on this one. This appears to be an awful choice made by a desperate nominee. Hillary's people are roundly rejecting Palin on the blogs, so I have to wonder, is this the huge blunder it appears to be or is it part of a larger strategy?
Full Quote: "As for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that V.P. slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question."
OK, what internet meme does this remind you of?
theaceofclubzsays...I really didn't see this round of running mate picking to be that surprising on either side (in full disclosure - Fuck McCain). Obama chose Biden who addresses Obama's criticisms of being to inexperienced in foreign affairs. McCain chose Palin cause she's a woman (Hillary) and she revved the party base (strongly pro-life, gun rights, blah blah blah). I can only assume that she was chosen to try to revive McCain's campaign.
If the Obama camp treads carefully though, they may be able to spin this to their side. When, given the chance to pick an advisor with which you will approach the nation, with whom do you choose? A lady with 2 yrs. experience or an 11 year member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I really don't see how the McCain camp can spin the Palin pick as being more than Fall pandering. In contrast to Obama's choice as an advisor in his presidency. At least Obama's choice does tell us a little bit about his choice of advice.
Kreegathsays...All the Obama campaign, and Biden in the VP debate, needs to do is press her hard on her creationism stance. Lots of non-fundamentalist republican parents would stay home on election day knowing that their vote could potentially put into office a religious zealot. Not to mention the undecided, who's christian nutjob constituency is even smaller than the republican's.
Seriously, to the reasonable people that make up the vast majority of the republican party, that should be the dealbreaker that trumps the positive things she brings the campaign.
hueco_tankssays...Vice-President of WHAT!?! Really!?!
The right wing talking heads are suggesting straight-faced that Palin's 21-month governorship in Alaska and 2-terms as mayor of Wasilla (not to mention her time on the PTA) compares favorably to Obama's preparation to lead the free world. She has "more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined."
Give me a break. Are Americans really this stupid? The conservative base is energized by a hockey-mom-would-be-president.

Check, check, check, check... gimme her number, I think we've found our nominee!

TrollopRegarded as one of the sexiest political wives.VP pick: Regarded as the hottest governor in US and former beauty pageant winner.
I think we all know which head made this decision
I'm still waiting to pass judgment on how capable she'll be as a running mate. Everything seems to point to the fact she's way out of her league (aka not kid's hockey), but she could be a wolf in sheep's clothing. If not Biden will eat her for breakfast in the VP debates.
kageninsays...Aceofclubs hit it on the head. She's anti-abortion (which really means she's a traitor to her gender), a shill for the gun lobby (which I can't imagine any sane mother being), and as Crosswords pointed out, she's got a safe face (apologies to Geraldine Ferraro). She's going to be little more than a talking head that the Neo-con base can feel good about.
While Biden was chosen to counter that Obama lacks Foreign Policy experience, Palin was chosen because she's not really going to do ANYTHING as VP except make McCain look good. That's WHY no one has told her just what the VP actually is supposed to do: Cast a Tie-Breaker vote in the Senate. That's all the VP really did (up until Cheney decided to re-write that part of the Constitution.)
I can't imagine why former Clinton supporters would go for this. It'd be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Unless they're really that stupid anyway (cough* http://www.videosift.com/video/Chris-Matthews-Battles-Full-On-PUMA-Inanity *cough)...

They need to be careful with that comment, since it applies to McCain himself, too.
By that logic, Palin is the most qualified of the four.
If executive experience was all that mattered to people, Gov. Richardson would've been the Dem nominee, and Gov. Huckabee or Fmr. Gov. Romney would've been the GOP nominee.
The whole "people prefer Governors" thing pretty much refers to Governors of New York, Florida, Texas, and California. Alaska the state has a smaller population than the city I live in. Guiliani, as Mayor of New York, was responsible for over ten times as many people as Palin has been as Governor, and people scoffed at his "executive" experience.
Memoraresays...is she originally from Alaska, Is that an Alaskan accent and typical word useage - 1/3 Canadian 1/3 Minnesota 1/3 Valley Girl? "As for that vp talk all the time i tell ya by golly don'tcha know ya sure ohmygaaad."
And wtf is all that about it having to be a fruitful type of position especially for 'aLAAASkins'?
