"The Santa Ana Police Department will launch an internal affairs investigation after being provided video clips showing officers engaging in questionable behavior during a police raid last month on a medical marijuana dispensary, Police Chief Carlos Rojas told Voice of OC this week.
Attorney Matthew Pappas, who edited and produced the clips before providing them to Voice of OC, says the video shows officers eating food laced with marijuana, known in pot lingo as “edibles,” and seized during the raid. Officers also played darts inside the pot shop while apparently completing an inventory of the shop’s contents. Pappas represents the shuttered Sky High Holistic dispensary where the video was recorded.
The clips also show officers dismantling video equipment and cameras, indicating they didn’t know other cameras continued to record their activities."

siftbotsays...Promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Thursday, June 11th, 2015 7:38pm PDT - promote requested by eric3579.
Mordhaussays..."Did you punch that one-legged old Benita?" one officer says.
"I was about to kick her in her ****ing nub," another officer replies.
Marla James volunteers at the Sky High Collective. She's legally blind and says several medical issues keep her confined to a wheelchair.
"How can I respect someone like that? It just makes your stomach turn -- maybe she doesn't know what it's like to have an amputation. I don't know what was going through her head, but man that was so disrespectful," James said.
She now plans to sue the city for the actions of the female officer in the video.

Protect and serve, protect and serve. Classy people, one and all. Don't you just feel so warm and protected after seeing our law enforcement mistreating handicapped people, eating pot brownies, and trying to destroy evidence?

newtboysays...I'm waiting for all the videos of the 'good cops' out there...I've been waiting a LONG time now. It's seeming more and more like they don't exist anymore.
It's really telling how cops act around other cops when they think no one's watching. it does not go unnoticed how they NEVER worry that the other cops will turn them in for their criminal actions.
Every day my estimation of cops gets worse and worse, with good reason. Incredibly sadly, I'm NEVER given a reason to even question that rapidly sinking, already near rock bottom estimation.
If ANY other group of people committed the acts the police have committed just this year alone, the organization would be outlawed and it's assets seized under RICO.
Let this be a lesson to us all, hide your security cameras well so you have evidence against whatever false charges might be levied against you, because the police know to destroy the visible one's before robbing you blind.
poolcleanersays...Here come the champions of nonviolence themselves! Raise a gun in toast and point it at a disabled person!
As always, commanding our respect with their good example.
Oh, but we got it wrong: We're supposed to respect them BEFORE they can respect us. How? Oh! You meant FEAR.
GenjiKilpatricksays...Hey look, shitbags.. shitbaggin' it up, as usual.
What do you expect when there are basically no consequences for doing ANY unlawful act as long as you're a cop?
Wanna steal?
Wanna murder?
Become a cop.
rancorsays...Funny how you don't need to destroy the cameras when you're doing your job properly. And how everyone is perfectly on the same page in that regard.
lantern53says...Since you all know I'm a cop (because I'm not afraid of admitting it), please list your occupations below so that I can find videos of people in your occupations misbehaving, so then we can all criticize and generalize about everyone in your profession.
thank you
bobknight33says...being an un permitted pot shop they are no better than the local drug dealer. Get a permit.
Being said the officers should have been more professional.
bobknight33says...You never see cops doing the right thing since it too mundane. Fare cooler to see cops thumping on a thug screwing the common man.
Who wants to see a cop helping an old lady changing her tire.
Its like me and my boss. I only hear from him when I fuck something up. I only see my boss about 3 times a year. He does not care about the good stuff I do. That's my job I'm supposed to do it well.

newtboysays...So, now they're trying to claim those were all personal 'treats' the officers brought to the raid with them, and not the store's edibles they are discussing as they eat them. Jesus f*cking Christ! Are cops so stupid now that they think anyone will believe that insanity? It's clearly obvious they are eating products from the store, and sharing them with each other, discussing the taste and the strength, and reading the labels (after eating the treat) to see what they're eating.
They also say the officers will eventually be given drug tests for marijuana, but the raid was May 26. No drug tests have yet been given, and likely won't be for another 2 weeks so the officers have a chance to be clean (marijuana can be detected for around a month on most tests). At the very least, they've given them a chance to 'flush' their systems to try to beat the test by announcing that a drug test is likely coming for them soon. If the higher ups were interested in knowing the 'truth', every officer involved would have had a drug test the moment this video was made known to them....but they're still 'investigating', and probably won't be testing until that's done... in a few weeks.
Interesting that they have no excuse, and so completely ignore the (attempted) destruction of the surveillance system and the joking with each other about abusing a wheelchair bound, near blind woman, and the 'playing darts' while on the clock, supposedly doing an inventory and 'securing the property' (which is not supposed to mean securing it in their bellies).
These professionals are acting less and less professional daily, and their 'supervisors' are bending over backwards to let the decline continue....and escalate.
Krovvensays...No other profession has the kind of power and interaction with society that police officers do. When cops abuse that power and goof around on the job, it has major effects on peoples lives.
So yes, damn straight they need to be criticized and even generalized because this shit happens way too often and there isn't usually evidence left behind to tell the whole story.
If your fellow officers would stop acting like power hungry douchebags, then they wouldn't receive so much scrutiny from the public...you know, the people that pay your salaries.
Let's make sure this is clear...this isn't the actions of one or two officers that were having an abnormally stressful day. This was an entire department abusing their authority. Sorry, "the actions of a few" defense goes out the window when you have an entire team acting the way they were.
Since you all know I'm a cop (because I'm not afraid of admitting it), please list your occupations below so that I can find videos of people in your occupations misbehaving, so then we can all criticize and generalize about everyone in your profession.

GenjiKilpatricksays...Nice try, Krovven.
Unfortunately, people like @lantern53 are unmoved by sound, rational arguments.
Maybe if you grunt like a caveman while wearing a halloween police costume..

lantern53says...Genji, you like to generalize about police officers. A lot of people like to generalize about black people. Why is one offensive, but not the other?
GenjiKilpatricksays...Whoa. "Got me there, bucko."
Oh wait, no.. I made that exact argument last week.
Thanks for finally catching a glimpse of my point of view.
How progressive and nuanced of you, Lantern.
Shall we agree to not make sweeping pejorative generalizations from now on and stick to honest discussion?
I can behave if you can. Wanna try? Cool Beans!!
Have a safe day a work tomorrow! Peace!

Paybacksays...... and Genji receives his answer.
GenjiKilpatricksays...No, why do you ask? Do you think i'm being insincere?
I made this same argument - in my long-winded way - in this comment just last week.
(as well as another comment previous to this that I'm not gonna search for)
I'm actually pretty polite and well-mannered when I'm not ranting, believe it or not.
The point being:
You hate when people talk badly about LEOs.
I hate when people talk badly about People of Color.
We both share that similar feeling.
You understand that not all black people are criminals. (i hope)
I understand that not all police people are criminals.
We both share that common ground. (as @kevingrr put it)
Here I am attempting to extend an olive branch and show you some respect..
And all I get in return is more mockery.
Oooh well, can't say I never tried to be friendly/make peace..
Genji, did you forget to hit the (sarc) button?
radxsays...Help an ignorant European brother out, will you...
This shop operated without a business permit. Would the appropriate procedure not be:
- official delivers notification that shop will be closed down if operator doesn't acquire permit within a week
- official returns after week if owner failed to acquire and present permit, cites owner for operating without a permit and gives another 48h deadline
- official returns after 48h and, if the owner still cannot produce a permit, notification is given that shop will be closed down
- police calmly evacuate the building, take photographic evidence of current state, close shop until end of legal proceedings
Instead, what I saw on the video might pass as an instructional video for the ‛Ndrangheta but not for a police force in a civilized country. These people strike me as unfit for duty and the brazen nonchalance with which they consumed the drugs themselves in front of other officers might be a reasonable argument to put the entire department under investigation.
dannym3141says...Hi I'm @lantern53 and everything is always all about me and how it makes me feel. If anyone doesn't like what i like and talks about it anywhere i can see, i want to get revenge on them for personally and individually singling me out for abuse based on other people's actions even though none of it had anything directly to do with me and i wasn't mentioned. If anyone posts a video about poor police behaviour, i go there and reprimand others for posting videos that i don't like to see, and explain why the video is bad and wrong.
Any video posted with police involved is about me, offends me on a personal level, and that means you and i are opponents and i must find a way to offend you in a similar way. It would be easier for me to fling shit around if you would tell me what you guys do so that i can insult anyone who came to watch the video.
Thanks for listening i've been @lantern53, and it's all about me.

Stormsingersays...I can't believe you guys are -still- feeding these two trolls.
Has either one ever contributed a single valuable point to any discussion here? I'm unaware of any.
HugeJerksays...They had a business permit, just not the new one that Santa Ana came up with for Pot Dispensaries. These shops have been operating in legal grey areas in Orange County, awhile back Santa Ana decided that they'd directly permit for it... but did it in a really screwed up way. A lottery.
Anybody who wanted to operate a dispensary had to pay $1690, a non-refundable amount, to enter a lottery for the privilege to buy a permit. Santa Ana collected more than a million dollars in the lottery fees. There have been enough accusations of shady behavior with the lottery process that a Judge recently issued an order to stop the program from going forward until it can be investigated.
The business in the video has been around since well before the Lottery. They got word that the city was going to use the Police to raid them instead of doing any of the normal things when shutting down a business, which is why they setup the hidden cameras.
Help an ignorant European brother out, will you...

StukaFoxsays...Bob, I'd like to.
Seriously. I'd like to see offsetting videos of cops being good citizens and good protectors and defenders. Because deep down, I want to believe cops are exactly that. I don't want to believe The Thin Blue Line is a collection of corrupt thugs who believe it's their right to act as judge, jury and executioner. I want to think cops are doing the right thing for the right reasons and not riding the wave of a power trip.
Show me the videos of cops being helpful, courteous and kind and I'll upvote them. But at the same time, I will not close my eyes to the videos that show cops doing the exact opposite.
Who wants to see a cop helping an old lady changing her tire.
radxsays...Cheers for the info, mate, but... cash up front, non-refundable? Sweet mother of fuck, that's a shakedown. Nothing shady about it, that's pure-D corruption.
If this creative business model of theirs is then enforced by the police in such a manner as we witnessed in this clip, it might probably be a good idea to get the feds involved in this.

newtboysays...It's even better (worse), because after accepting over $1million in these 'permit lottery tickets', they've suspended the lottery, so NO ONE is legal even though hundreds of businesses paid their 'fee' to get a chance to be legal, and they seem to be using the applications as 'probable cause' for warrants for any business that submitted an application for the permit 'lottery'. It's disgusting that the judge in the case saw how corrupt the plan is, but actually made things worse by halting the program but not demanding the 'fees' be refunded or the business permits be re-issued to those that had permits before this plan went into effect. That makes this program a pure armed robbery by the local government, one that I'm sure will be overturned, but many will lose their business, savings, and even their freedom in the mean time.
I think the feds are taking a hands off approach to medical marijuana. They have stopped going after it (for now) but are also not helping defend them. It's a pretty screwed up situation I hope will be resolved in the next election where I expect at least California will legalize recreational marijuana (yet we probably won't be releasing the thousands in prison for minor marijuana crimes, too much money to be made by keeping them incarcerated).

Stormsingersays...Shakedown...yep, that's as good a description as anything. I seriously doubt bringing in the feds would help. The DEA would probably just kick themselves for not having thought of this before. The Justice Department is doing it's damnedest to avoid considering the implications of their name. There's not much of any place to turn here...
