Memoraresays...Perhaps the last best hope for Freedom.
gwiz665says...Music was way over the top, but still ok. Goodness, I hope he wins.
BicycleRepairMansays...He's honest and has integrity, I'll give him that, I even agree with him on some issues, but I fundamentally think his views are crazy. Completely abolishing the government will not solve all problems. Infact its gonna be a disaster. America was founded in 1776, back then, basically "less government" was better than the kings and priests of europe. But times have changed, what we call the "civilized world" today requires quite a bit of government. The make-your-own-damn-luck principle does not ultimately end up being the best we can do. We can create systems that atleast partially evens things out a bit, and with proper systems, we can have good public education, healthcare and so on. We've done just that in Europe, and surprise surprise, America isnt #1 in these things anymore, and its not because you have "too much government" because we have more government than you..
Lots of things are wrong with the US government tho.. the 2-party system, the endlessly corrupting "lobbying" system, the corporate influence, the Mafia-like family, money and status privileges of those who have a chance getting elected.. the failing education, lack of health care, the foreign policy, the Patriot act..
So much is wrong, that Ron Pauls ideas sound almost sane at times, but I'm pretty sure they are not.
Trancecoachsays...WATCH OUT for Ron Paul's ties to the Oil Industry!
flavioribeirosays...BicycleRepairMan, with Ron Paul public education should be better because the states will be in control. It's always better to delegate local functions to the local governments, because the federal government can't adequately allocate resources to functions it doesn't directly monitor.
Ron Paul drives a solid argument when he says the United States can't afford its foreign policy, much less the promises made by other candidates to expand healthcare. The other candidates never mention how the US is supposed to afford all this spending, simply because they can't give an honest answer.
The sad fact is that the United States is going bankrupt. Most Americans want to fool themselves into believing this isn't true. They complain about gas prices, and the few who travel abroad complain how everything suddenly so expensive, but they want to pretend everything is under control, and that nothing can happen to the greatest economy in the world.
One big reason why Europe can afford universal health care and education is because it doesn't spend 1 trillion dollars per year in Iraq, doesn't have 550 thousand troops overseas and doesn't have to pay massive interest on a quadratically increasing foreign debt.
I'm a big fan of Ron Paul, and I'm not even American. I'm a Brazilian engineering grad student with a background in mathematics and economics, and I've never seen a candidate from any country that was so knowledgeable about history, economics and foreign policy, and so focused in defending civil liberties. I wish I could vote for him.
ImaMonstersays...I agree that Ron Paul has some ideas that I would be scared of, but I really think we need a change in foreign policy and his seems like the most logical. He couldn't possibly put into action everything he proposes, so I wouldn't be too worried. I would like to know more about what he plans to do for health care though. I don't agree with everything he says but he really seems like the most honest person running. I really hope he wins, we need some radical change in this country if we're going to be a player on the world stage, and Ron Paul would bring it. The other candidates seem so cookie cutter.
