Rock Slide onto a Highway

AP reports, November 11, 2009.

Two rock slides in East Tennessee have closed US Highway 64 in both directions and traffic is being rerouted.

A Polk County dispatcher said the slide happened around 6 a.m. EST at mile marker 17 near Ducktown. Another slide then occurred around 1 p.m. EST in the same area. Fortunately, everyone was evacuated before the second slide.

Traffic is being rerouted on the east end at Boyd Gap Road at mile marker 17 and on the west end at Parksville Road.
