Registering voters at Safeway -- IF you support Romney

Whoa. The poop is going to hit the fan on this one. I hope this kid learns a lesson in Civics from this.

From a news article http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/627358e81f084a74bf8c133a6d17d36d/CO--Voter-Video
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — El Paso County clerk and recorder Wayne Williams is disavowing a video in which a woman claimed to be registering voters on behalf of his office.

Williams said Sunday his office does not conduct partisan voter registration drives and it is not affiliated with any partisan voter registration.

Williams says the unidentified woman may have misunderstood the rules because all registration forms obtained by voter registration drives must be submitted to his office.

Pretty poor response, QM. Even for you.

Really? are you honestly surprised?

They've pretty much admitted they're deliberately trying to suppress the vote and QM will still do his mental gymnastics and still argue the virtue of this.

When are the mods here going to kick him out of the sift for trolling? He's not arguing another valid perspective. He typically runs away when he's called out. He doesn't defend his position except with ad homs and other fallacies.

kick him out of here.

Kofisays...

I thought he'd go with "This is just a fake video set up by liberals who can't bare to acknowledge that they are going to lose in November". The authenticity of the video is a legitimate ground for rebuttal but he just went with the Strawman. Second rate trolling.

Edit: I will defend QM by saying that he is one funny bugger in non-political comments. This is what makes his trolling so obvious. He proves that he is capable of coherent and thoughtful remarks but just does away with that whenever there is a political point to be won, but mainly lost.

I see that this young girl who looks barely 20 years old doesn't know what she is doing wrong, and the lady with the camera is right about the party discrimination. But I felt that as an older person the lady could've informed the youngin' the rights and wrongs of her actions without embarrassing her like that in public.

That part was very mean spirited and the lady was taking her anger against political shinanigans on a poor inexperienced teen who's just trying to get some volunteer hours in. I started cringing the moment lady started raising her voice on purpose trying to embarrass the girl. And If I heard correctly, I think the lady called the young girl a 'honey bitch' at the end... Politics brings out the worst in people, either those who use young, misinformed teens to do their wrong deeds or be it an angry woman who does everything she can to embarrass an inexperienced girl. Ugh...

braindonutsays...

I felt the same way. I bet she had no idea she was doing anything wrong - and she may have actually just been taking the job because she needs money. Who knows. Pretty sure she said honey bunch, tho.

Sometimes embarrassment is necessary to teach a lesson. I think that girl should've been beaten until she wasn't stupid anymore. Oh how I wish I was a teacher.

VoodooVsays...

the girl may not have realized what she was getting into. But that's a far cry from being innocent. My guess is that she knew exactly what she was doing, just either wasn't expecting to be caught or maybe thought the other side did it too (very probably true, in either case, it's no excuse)

I'm sorry, kids can be dumb, but not quite that dumb. not understanding the consequences isn't the same thing as knowing you're deliberately trying to include one group and exclude the other.

and Kofi, making a few funny posts doesn't excuse deliberate troll posts. That's like saying it's ok to be a dick as long as I help grandma across the street a few times.

While I totally agree with you, this is America, where education is absolute gobshite. I find it perfectly plausible that this "honey bunch" might not know how anti-democratic her job is. I also was very annoyed at the older woman taking her political frustration out like that, and found that it diminished the power of the video. She missed a wonderful opportunity to calmly explain (to the woman, but also and more importantly the viewers) why what she is doing is so wrong. *le sigh*

I really can't get over how annoyed people are at the camerapersons reaction (including YT comments). She got snippy. That's it. Slightly rude at something that may be gravely offensive (we still don't know if she was just polling or actually helping people enrol, time will tell). She didn't lecture, curse or become violent. She gathered evidence whilst being outraged and a tad self-righteous.

Maybe we're over-looking that this is a female to female interaction and there is no obligation for chivalry, no matter how small. This may just be civility in its most appropriate form.

KnivesOutsays...

@Kofi agreed. I'm sure the older woman was like "got what I need, now to see who's behind this." She knew that this kid didn't invent the idea to do this, she was sent to this place by someone at the County Clerks Office who forgot to tell her "Sure, try to register people that look like republicans (NO BROWN FOLKS PLEASE) but if anyone asks, we're here to register ANYONE."

What's sad? Wouldn't the idea that this product of the United States public education system is so clueless as to think that A: She believed herself to be correct in her actions at issue and B: She believes from the information available to her (most likely gathered from the ultimate source of accurate and wholly objective information, the television) that she is able to accurately make any decisions whatsoever regarding her government?

She's as developmentally disabled as our resident fungus (growing ever-healthier on his only food-source, television and am radio) as are those who believe that brand O, is any more noble or qualified than brand R, to do anything but continue to turn civilians nay, the entire human race into an automotomacious lump of ineffectual wage-slaves.

QM actually adds to the collective. Any healthy group needs negative actors to keep it fresh and honest.

See? You and I can disagree and actually listen to each other's arguments before deciding you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

TheFreaksays...

So if you don't live in Colorado you're missing half the story.

Due to a recent policy change, failing to vote in any election removes you from the electoral registry. So if you didn't vote in the last state election, for example, you are not a registered voter in Colorado. This policy is recent enough that many people preparing to vote in November will not realize they are no longer a registered voter.

Not to worry, if you go to vote and find you're not registered, you can register at the polling site. All you need is a photo ID.

Add to that the recent attempt by Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler (Republican) to purge voters by challenging their citizenship. Seems ironic that the US sends monitors to other countries to ensure fair elections.

Fletchsays...

I vote dumb, gullible girl. She's Republican, ffs, so it's pretty obvious. Just look at that thousand-yard stare. So sad. And to openly admit her purpose to people... I don't think she'd do that if she understood the possible implications of doing so, much less the legality of her actions.

And Safeway had nothing to do with it.

At no time did I say "Lana Lang" here was justified or right in doing what she did. As some of the less-testy lefties here admit, she certainly did not act like someone who was caught deliberately trying to do wrong.

What I am saying is, compared to the vote-rigging schemes by taxocrat elected officials and the illegal "granting" of amnesty by His Majesty, liberals have no solid ground to attack voter suppression, which consists of asking for the SAME FUCKING ID used to buy alcohol.

Oh that's right, we're not allowed to criticize The One's SHIT performance in office, because he's (half) Black.

Liberals will always have a ready-made excuse why obamanomics failed, or why no one is investing in this poisoned business climate, or why millions have been added to food stamps and disability, or why tyrants around the world scoff at His Earness' spinelessness. But it's your right to worship at the feet of this fool.

Regarding partisanship, am I inclined to be a little less harsh towards conservative foolishness than liberal foolishness? Of course. Only now, liberal foolishness means the wholesale ruination of the system.

Seriously, American libs, why are you still here? Canada and Europe ALREADY HAVE free health care and all the PC bullshit already set in stone! If I believed as you do, I'd have moved a long time ago.
